Decluttering - help!

Decluttering - but fashion advice needed! I like clothes, a lot, probably too much.

My downfall are pretty dresses.

So far I am decluttering but having a few issues like:-

  • old work clothes - smart stuff for corporate work - I'm currently on a year's contract which I'm expected to apply for and get in January 2021, but been contracting for past few years beforehand - corporate jobs some of them, should I keep the smart trousers, shirts etc for now just in case the contract doesn't go permanent?

  • Dresses - I have a few of these bought either this year or last year - mixture of day, night, etc - some worn, some not - partly due to not going out as much due to pandemic - what to do?

I do have some really nice very favourite clothes - but these seem to be 10 items at best.

And how do you not buy more stuff? I try but then end up buying. Have worked out now though that as I'm in leggings etc and walk more then I don't need more leggings but sweatshirts (smarter, Zara) are what I have/bought one - plus a nice pair of black fur lined boots to walk in.

I've been glaring at my wardrobe too, lots of clothes I'm not wearing at all. Have concluded I'm just going to box up and hide some clothes till it becomes clearer whether things are every going to get back to what I think of as "normal" pre-CV. It's just too early to be sure what I'll need next... some of the things I previously binned I regretted when we all locked down in the spring! Life is too unpredictable right now.

I'm just nervous about going back to a corporate world (currently in government) after 3-4 years of contracting and then finding that I need all my smart work dresses, skirts, blouses and jackets!

I also have the odd lovely blouse which I think I'd regret if I ever got rid of it - lovely colour.

Personally I wouldn't bin anything right now (unless you have clothes which don't fit/are scruffy/you hate wearing). See how life is after the pandemic. I'd just pack them away for now. This has the upside of allowing you to feel you have lots of new clothes when you eventually unpack them.
