Another jacket with fur hood thread

There’s a great thread just below, and got some tips from there, but specifically searching for a jacket with fur hood. Considering Joules, Barbour and one from La Redoute, but don’t like them too padded, shiny or bling.

The Barbour Maya is near perfect but it’s black. Not keen on black.
Have my eye on the 213137 3-in-1 Joules Waterproof Parka, but not quite right.

Please help me before I spend another winter wearing one of my awful old coats!! Thanks

This is the Barbour one:

This is the Joules one:

Or if you think those are my best bets, then let me know! :-)

The Barbour Maya is not very black at all. I looked at it in a shop today and it’s almost green - definitely not a dark black.

I've got my eye on this

porridgethighs · 17/10/2020 21:17

Sorry the link didn't work, it's the Malvern

LittleBlueFish · 17/10/2020 21:19

I’ve got the superdry Everest parka which is lovely. I got it for about £80 on Black Friday last year so if you can wait a month you might get some money off www.superdry.com/products?product_id=4048151&source=googleshopping&locale=en-GB&nst=0&gclid=CjwKCAjwrKr8BRB_EiwA7eFapplq2Jew0PWYZRhcxAv_QiH0nRC5o0QauZs7Ert52nUfnkAdULABSxoCCSIQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Catabogus, did you like the Barbour Maya? Worried it might be a bit boxy too?

ooh, Porridge, that Malvern coat is amazing! Pricey but pretty much perfect. Did you like the navy or the olive? I think I actually like the olive! Thank you - great suggestion.

LittleBlueFish - I also really like the Superdry. (I feel like I might be too old for superdry though at 48!!!)

@zzzz31 you mention an earlier thread on this topic, but I can’t find it, would you mind posting a link to that thread?

zzzz31 · 18/10/2020 10:12

Sure. Though I don’t know how to do that! Any tips?

OP posts:
zzzz31 · 18/10/2020 10:13

There are a couple of threads I’ve been looking at. Neither of them are specifically about coats with hoods, just parkas generally but pretty helpful!

Sorry that was @Coffeepot72

Whistles do a really lovely one for£189 (the Willmer)- they stock it in John Lewis

ApolloandDaphne · 18/10/2020 10:57

Can I ask why people like fur trimmed hoods? I have in the past had coats with them but always ended up removing them. They made the hood too heavy and were horrible when they got wet in rain. I now avoid them.

I have a nice one from whistles that has a removable body furry liner so perfect for cold and removable for spring.

zzzz31 · 18/10/2020 22:20

@ApolloandDaphne that's helpful!! I have never had a coat with a fur trim hood before, so it's just a naive yearning for what always seems desirable... ! I can now see that maybe I have been a little late to the party... Grin

thanks for those other tips @MrsPerfect12 and @albird

Mmm love both of those! The Mint velvet and the Whistles. Thank you

Try the Barbour Kelsall. You can pull it in at the waist (internal elastic) so it's not boxy.

Also Barbour black isn't a true black. It's definitely softer with green undertones. I think they do the Kelsall in green as well though and maybe brown too.

Fur hoods are great for fine rain or particularly snow as it catches the rain and stops it dripping off the front of the hood and into eyes. That's why all the big serious winter padded coats have fur hoods.

zzzz31 · 20/10/2020 23:34

Thanks for that last recommendation @LooseMooseHoose.

I ended up (before reading most of these) ordering the Barbour Swanage.

www.barbour.com/uk/barbour-swanage-waterproof-jacket

It came today. I think it's too boxy for me - a big fit :-( :-( Not sure if I should try the 10... but I always thought Barbour came up small... Does anyone agree with that?

Sad. I had pinned my hopes on it! I think it's going back.

Will check out the Kelsall now. Thanks again.

LooseMooseHoose · 21/10/2020 21:59

Shame!

I am a large size 10 (hips and boobs), and find the size 10 Kelsall fits well. Enough room for a jumper under in winter if required, but fitted too. I'm hourglass shaped and have always found other Barbour styles too boxy: large on the waist and tight on the hips.

LightOfAThousandStars · 23/10/2020 12:23

The Superdry Rookie Down Parka also looks lovely and warm if you haven't found one yet. It's longer than the Everest one recommended above which is also great.
