Shampoo for fine hair with itchy scalp

Lougle · 17/10/2020 15:55

I have fine hair, but lots of it. My scalp gets really itchy (not headlice - checked - no obvious dandruff). When I wash my hair, the next day it's starting to look lank. On the second day it looks greasy.

Can anyone suggest a good shampoo? I can't use conditioner because my hair just looks greasy if I do.

I used Tgel once a week and the black Loreal (resist?) in between. There is also a leave in conditioner in the range which is good.

Just use Alpecin until your scalp return to normal

Sorted my itchy scalp within a wash or two!

Head and shoulders 2 in 1 for itchy scalp really works.

PerfidiousAlbion · 17/10/2020 22:34

Loreal Fibrology Shampoo. Wonderful stuff.

Nioxin thickening serum on roots. Thickens the hair shaft and stops it getting flat/greasy.

Blow dry your hair vertically if you can. At least at the front.

I tried Head and Shoulders but it was too heavy for my hair and it was greasy-looking the next day.

Check out MooGoo. It worked wonders on my itchy scalp.

RAOK · 17/10/2020 22:56

Moo goo for me too!

Philip Kingsley itchy flakey scalp. I have stayed true for 10 years. A really good second shampoo is also important. I use red ken clean maniac (or whatever is the latest version they call it). After this I can then use a proper conditioner. Which keeps my ends from splitting and I only have to wash twice a week.

Great ideas to try. Thanks everyone Smile

Body shop ginger shampoo - worked a treat for me where T gel etc etc failed over many years

PenOrPencil · 18/10/2020 08:54

Another vote for Moogoo here, it’s wonderful.

PuppyMonkey · 18/10/2020 09:03

I use Philip Kingsley itchy flaky. I have psoriasis and it’s the only thing that has worked consistently for about 6 years now - all previous suggestions like T-gel, Alphosyl etc eventually stopped helping over time.

Not tried the Moogoo stuff though so would be interested to hear more about it!

Lorelaithe1st · 18/10/2020 09:37

I had the same issue/hair type and now use Kerastase shampoos (volumifique mainly) which seems to have sorted it, only washing every second day. I tried t-gel and other shampoos for itchy scalp and didn’t find they helped.

silentpool · 18/10/2020 09:40

Its the SLS and the fragrances that cause the itchy scalp - at least for me. I would recommend washing your hair less often (train it to go longer between washes) and use a more gentle shampoo.

HappyThursdays · 18/10/2020 09:44

I was the same as @silentpool. I used T gel and all sorts of other things - I was on the verge of going to a private dermatologist the itching was so bad when someone suggested I use a SLS free shampoo! I've not looked back since then. My hair is less greasy and my scalp doesn't itch at all. Every time we run out and I use normal shampoo, the itching comes back!

PuppyMonkey · 18/10/2020 09:57

SLS free doesn’t help mine sorry to say, in fact the itchiness got a lot worse.

Lorelaithe1st · 18/10/2020 10:41

I’m the same as @PuppyMonkey, SLS free made it a lot worse. I’ve found air drying rather than blow drying helps too.

Rugbycomet · 18/10/2020 10:47

I use Vichy Dercos technique or Klorane calming and anti irritant. Not cheap but they both work well and without the smell of T gel
