Who’s up for a challenge (to find me some boots)?

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 17/10/2020 08:55

I’m at the end of my tether. I’ve ordered and sent back so many pairs of boots over the past week and I’m no closer to finding what I want.

What I want:

 • black leather biker/brogue boots (could be either)
 • ‘grippy’ sole (not flat) but not too chunky
 • must have a side zip for putting on. Front styling can be laces or zip but the laces mustn’t be the only means of putting on/taking off
 • Not too much embellishment. No quilting, buckles, chains or sparkly bits.

Need to go with dresses and opaque tights, but also with skinny jeans and dungarees.

I love the Doc Martens Delphine but they’re sold out everywhere.

I like the styling of these but they don’t have a zip www.stories.com/en_gbp/shoes/boots/ankleboots/product.lace-up-leather-boots-black.0558709001.html

I like these but, again, they’re out of stock. www.johnlewis.com/carvela-snail-lace-up-leather-ankle-boots/black/p3055323

These would be nice but the sole is too clumpy and they’re out of stock www.johnlewis.com/and-or-rudi-leather-lace-up-hiking-boots-black/p5099319

I quite like these, but not the price. www.johnlewis.com/allsaints-ariel-leather-lace-up-biker-boots-black/p4933259

Apologies for the lack of hyperlinks but I can’t work out how to do them on my phone.

Please help!

(I know this is hardly a real problem, but I’ve got a lot of actual problems going on right now and I’d love it if one thing could just be simple).

Cletter, sign up to the newsletter and wait for the sales. My nannetes were £120 in the last sale. Huge savings but soon as you see your size on sale buy em. They go quick.

NottinghamFlorest · 18/10/2020 20:22

and grenson size-wise... I take a 5.5 in their stuff. I'm a 6 everywhere else (if that helps at all!!)

StitchInTimeSavesNine · 18/10/2020 21:55

These?

An update:

All three pairs arrived on Wednesday. I discounted the All Saints immediately - they looked too chunky on me and weren’t that comfortable on, though the leather quality was excellent.

I’m going back and forth on whether I prefer the Moshulu or the Dune Boots. I’m aiming to make a decision tomorrow!

Look at Nero giardini these are by far the best boots and trainers I’ve ever worn!

These are my boots. I wore them all winter last year and they still look great. They are really comfortable and have a nice memory foam footbed. The site has some other nice boots too.

Ahm987 · 24/10/2020 22:49

Which of the pairs you’ve tried have been the narrowest, would you say @Clettercletterthatsbetter? I’ve been looking at all the same ones online. My DM Delphine boots which I bought only last year have split already, and I think my narrow feet are a factor 😢.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 25/10/2020 07:16

@Ahm987 of the most recent three, I’d say the Dune brogue boots are the narrowest.

These are amazing, beautiful leather and very light.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 25/10/2020 08:49

@Imtoooldforallthis I’ve actually ordered and returned two pairs of Pikolinos in my quest for the right boots - I loved the lightness of them but I didn’t feel the leather quality was good enough for the price. They look lovely though.

Aha! Moshulu have made it to the final two after starting as a wild card! Will they be the chosen ones or just proud to have made second place.... Grin

I came here to recommend the Moshulu boots, I’m such a marketing persons dream, their catalogue dropped onto my doorstep on Friday and I ordered some in grey on Saturday, they have been dispatched and should arrive soon, I’m beyond excited 😆

If they are as good as the reviews then I’ll be ordering them in other colours 😂

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 26/10/2020 05:39

@tonsattingforbjudes do you find yours slip at all? One of my main concerns about the Moshulu ones is that the sole seems to be made from grippy rubber at the toe/ball of the foot end, but the heel part is harder plastic and when I tried them on I slipped on our hallway floor!

@Clettercletterthatsbetter I’m a bit late to the party but my ideal boots are a similar description to yours. Not a usual style icon for me but when Holly did the jungle she had loads of great boots and I bought a pair that she wore which were actually Top Shop. Real leather as as you described. I was lucky because as soon as she posted them on Insta I looked for them and they were reduced to about £65 and they had them left only in my size (5 in boots). They don’t have anything quite the same this year but have a few that may be worth looking at. The boots I have don’t have a side zip which makes them a pain in the arse to get on but once they are on they are very comfortable.

Also find the Kurt Geiger do good boots to your description.

tonsattingforbjudes · 26/10/2020 13:29

@Clettercletterthatsbetter
I haven't found that mine slip and I have worn them a lot. Perhaps my floors are not as well polished as yours! Also have probably roughed up the heels after wearing outside.
I have worn them at work where acres of high shine floors haven't caused any slip and slide....however the heels do clatter. Makes it impossible to sneak past anyone, unseen....

SuperFairy · 26/10/2020 17:06

@tonsattingforbjudes did you need to wear yours in? I tried mine on today and I absolutely love them but as soon as I walked they were very painful right across the join where the toe joins the rest of the boot 😔

tonsattingforbjudes · 26/10/2020 18:37

@SuperFairy
Mine were comfortable from the start as far as I can remember. Which may not bode very well for you, sadly. Sad

SparklingGin · 26/10/2020 18:46
I know these don't quite fit the brief. I have some. They are the most comfortable boots I own!
www.moshulu.co.uk/product/bardsey-1377
Love these boots could you tell me if they are wide fitting please

tonsattingforbjudes · 26/10/2020 19:04

@SparklingGin
I wouldn't say they're wide fitting but they're certainly not narrow. I have an average/broad foot, a high instep and narrow ankles (odd combo!) and they fit me perfectly. Hope that helps!

Thank you I have similar shaped foot so that is a great help

Reporting back on the Moshulu boots.

I put them on again this morning and have been wearing them around the house and they seem completely different today! Much more comfortable so I am keeping them 😃😃

I think my problem is that I’ve been wearing slippers and trainers since March and so need to get used to wearing more structured footwear again!

Anyway, I’m glad that they are staying because I do love them 💕
