Ponds Cold Cream

Does anyone rate this? I found some at my mum’s and have used it this week. Smells gorgeous and took all my makeup off. Didn’t use it on my mascara as I’ve sensitive eyes,

My Nanna used it too (though she never wore makeup) and had amazing skin. Have we gotten too fancy over the years with so much skin care and choice?

My grandmother used it too, and was proud of her skin. Can you still buy it? I'm sure you are right. Probably 90% of the range of choices we have in products of all kinds are pointless duplications.

I have quite sensitive skin. CeraVe made my skin sting. I thought the Ponds with quite a distinctive fragrance might irritate but ... not so.

When I went online to looks at cleansers for fragile skin there was so much choice, I’d no idea where to start. Which is when I thought “I’ll have a go with this”. I usually double cleanse to get every trace of spf/makeup off but with this, the toner cotton wool pad is totally clean with just one application. I wash it off using a soft cloth.

I tried it and it made my face greasy and break out in spots (despite following the instructions for applying it in a thin layer then wiping off with a warm damp cloth) Sad

I used to work in a care home and most of the ladies there used it. They all looked amazing for their age. I think we could learn from them tbh.

TheAugury · 14/10/2020 19:56

I've used it for years it's soft gentle and takes my mascara perfectly

EasternDailyStress · 14/10/2020 20:04

My nan used to use this too, as well as Pond's Vanishing Cream, which always made me think it was magic! Do you know where you can buy the Cold Cream as I'd like to get some and neither Boots nor Superdrug online seem to stock it.

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 14/10/2020 20:34

It’s on iHerb, Amazon, eBay I think. Haven’t bought any yet, still using mum’s. Also, in her stash was a Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Advanced Serum Bundle which I’ve needed to discard as they just smelled “off” which got me thinking that there’s too much “in” stuff nowadays. More ingredients to taint over time.

@TheFormerPorpentinaScamander... I remember that it was a favourite of elderly ladies when I worked as a nurse. Even the packaging hasn’t changed.

It’s fabulous
Use at the end of the day with a flannel soaked n hot hot water then wrung out

VeraVinegarTits · 14/10/2020 21:46

It's amazing. I've been using it for years. You can buy a big pot from Amazon which has the more old fashioned texture that I remember my mum using and is a fraction of the price than you get at Boots. I was asked recently from a friend what the secret was to my "glowing" skin and told her it was this, at a fraction of the beauty products she shells out for. Also use it as a moisturiser in the cold weather. Knocks other cold creams (I'm talking about you, Liz Earle), into a cocked hat.

frugalkitty · 14/10/2020 22:35

It's gentle but I can't use it as it breaks me out. It's probably better for drier skins (or at least, not acne prone). Boots sell it for £5.99, they've got it in our local branch.

Annasgirl · 14/10/2020 22:39

Love it. Must order a large pot now. My DM used it and their moisturiser and had fabulous skin.

1forAll74 · 15/10/2020 04:21

My late Grandmother used Ponds cold cream most of her life, she died when she was 86, and had the most lovely smooth skin always, also a smooth neck with no wrinkles or that crepey looking skin. I don't know what she washed her hair with, but it was very thick , shiny and wavy until the day she died, she used to put a hair net on at bedtime, and then the next day, just a quick brush through and it looked lovely again.

It’s the best - but I recently found out that they test on animals so stopped buying Sad
Boots do their own version (“traditional skin cream”) though it’s not quite the same, but nearly and mega cheap. I’ve found Lush Ultrabland is the best dupe!

Deathraystare · 15/10/2020 14:50

I have the Boots one but not sure if they still make it . I loved Ponds but you don't always see it now. I love it in winter time when my skin is super dry.

Igglepigglesmiggle · 15/10/2020 14:52

I read a Kylie Minogue interview years ago, where she said that she only used Ponds Cold Cream on her face.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/10/2020 15:02

I get huge pots of it from Amazon and use with hot cloth.

www.amazon.co.uk/Ponds-Cold-Cream-Cleanser-9-5oz/dp/B000NT2EO8/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&crid=10NF83XFIZ0M&keywords=ponds+cold+cream&sprefix=ponds+%2Caps%2C168&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1602770412&sr=8-1

I love it, makes my skin feel like velvet and the jar lasts for ages.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/10/2020 15:04

Should add I only use for make up removal. If I don't have make up on, I just use soap on my face.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 15/10/2020 15:10

I remember seeing Crowes Cremine cleanser on a grandparents dressing table which they swore by. They still sell it somewhere as I saw it the other day online.

Lily193 · 15/10/2020 19:08

I love it. Haven't used it for years though. Might need to go and buy myself a pot now...I love the whole hot cloth ritual.

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 16/10/2020 11:27

Oh shit... didn’t realise it was tested on animals. That’s the end of that then.

Is cold cream and cold cream cleanser the same thing? This is reminding me of the triangular bottles of Anne French. Smile

LaBellina · 16/10/2020 15:10

My nan used this one or at least Pond's day and night cream. She always smelled so lovely when I kissed her on the cheek and she had truly lovely skin. I think she used Pond's for nearly 80 years, ever since she was a young girl spending her pocket money on it and urged me to do the same when I was a teenager. She died years ago at 93 with wrinkled but still very even toner and soft skin.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 16/10/2020 15:10

I bought some in New York because I forgot my moisturizer and then realized it's a great make up remover as well. When it ran out I couldn't find it anywhere so I'm using a boots own version cold cream for make up remover , it's really good but not as good as ponds
