My hair..

I’ve posted quite a few threads about my hair over the last year or so but I’m still really struggling with it to the point of being quite depressed. I’ve had excess shedding when washing, brushing etc for the last 18 months. The only time it slowed was on dianette contraceptive pill. I came off of it because of side effects. Back on again & it hasn’t stopped shedding yet 5 months in but dermatologist has told me it could take up to 8 months. I took some photos of my parting etc, in real life everyone that I’ve talked to about it says they notice no difference but I notice a huge difference. It feels so much less than before... I’m really down about it & wondering why the treatment that worked at the beginning of the year is not working yet now. Biopsy showed Androgenic alopecia/FPHL. I’m just so worried & spend a lot of time googling hair loss, hair replacement etc. Please can I have your honest opinions...

I think you would see positive improvements if you concentrated on your anxiety instead of the hair loss as it is not at all noticiable.

Sarahlouiseis33 · 13/10/2020 19:58

@DelphineWalsh - that’s what everyone is trying to tell me but my mind automatically goes to worst case scenario. It’s on my mind constantly ☹️

What do you consider to be the worse scenario to be?

Sarahlouiseis33 · 13/10/2020 20:14

Losing all or most of my hair. The volume has really reduced. The dianette slowed the shedding right down last time I was on it, this time it hasn’t had an effect yet.

I really do not see anything wrong or anything that would mak3 me look question why your hair was thin. Looks fine. Dont worry about it.
I know easier said than done.
Try diff styles
Embrace it. Hair thins as we get older anyway and you don't want to worry your life away

DelphineWalsh · 13/10/2020 20:33

Your dermatologist has said it will take longer than just the few months that you've been using the medication. Give it some time.

You can see that you haven't lost all of your hair and your friends in real life has said they don't see a difference in the reduced volume. The stress and worry that you are feeling will not be helping how you feel about your hair but also the hair loss itself.

Try not to focus on the hairloss which I know is hard because we all lose some everyday and is totally normal. Try to focus on what you do have looking wonderful. A side parting or use some big rollers at the roots will help to give that big bouncy look.

As previous posters have said, I can't see any hair loss. You will notice changes more because you know what it was like before but it looks normal. You could try different partings, brushing it all back with no parting or a hair band to change the look of your parting. You could also experiment with coloured volume sprays.

My hair is thinning. Age shows after a while...
First: panic, google, panic more
second: buy regain hair growth formula
third: started looking at wigs and they are awesome!
hair formula is now sitting in the drawer untouched.

tbf: for many years I had army hair: 3mm long everywhere.

MoltonSilver · 13/10/2020 22:36

It's not even a little bit noticeable. Honestly.

Have you seen a Trichologist?
They might have a different views and do different tests. My hair loss was down to low ferritin levels. My iron levels were good so not anemic. I just store iron well enough.
He recommended Florisene hair tablets. Within 2 months my hair stopped shedding and by 6 months hair regrew. I still take these tablets and does definitely help. My hair is still fine but not bad or thin as it was before. Look into Florisene.
I felt/feel exactly like you with anxiety about my hair. No one else notices but I do :(
I’m always comparing my hair with others or while watching tv.
I eat really healthy but my body isn’t storing my iron at all. I’ll have to take Florisene forever I guess. When I take a break from them I quickly notice my hair feeling flat and thinner on the top:(
I does get me down a lot.
Good luck

  • I don’t store Iron well
JemimaTiggywinkle · 14/10/2020 14:34

I can understand why this would be stressful, but as an outside perspective it really looks like a normal head of hair.

I don’t have hair loss... I have normal/slightly fine hair and I probably have a wider parting than you do.

workshy44 · 14/10/2020 16:52

Honestly you should consider counselling. Your hair is absolutely fine yet every month you post about it with pictures and everytime people give you the exact same advise and say exactly the same thing
There is nothing wrong with your hair, take it from someone who lost about 60% of their hair - I understand how devastating it can be but this is not it
This is not a hair but a phycological issue
