Has anyone tried snap on veneers?

I've only just discovered their existence and they may well be the next step if the teeth whitening products I've just bought don't bring about the desired results. Has anyone tried them or know anyone that has? They're just fake plastic teeth that go over your real teeth. I imagine some brands look ridiculous but the better ones might be worth a shot unless any wise mumsnetters can tell me I'm wasting my time?!

Jeez I can't imagine they would look anything but ridiculous!
I have a veneer on one tooth and despite the real tooth being filed down it still looks bigger than the others.

Sasuma · 13/10/2020 18:21

I suspect they won’t look great. I mean, actual, fixed veneers always look very fake so I can’t imagine removable plastic ones would look any better and will probably look a lot worse...

keylimecheesecake · 13/10/2020 18:34

Yeah, I wondered about that. My teeth aren't too big at the moment but they're also not small teeth so a little bigger might tip the balance. Hard to tell until you've tried them though.

I didn't know that about real veneers Sasuma. I had assumed the filing would solve that one but clearly not.

@keylimecheesecake real veneers are always really obvious - too big and too white. Natural teeth, even whitened, never look a uniform white all over. And aren’t as big.

keylimecheesecake · 13/10/2020 20:04

I don't know I'd agree Sasuma. Maybe if you look closely but from afar and not focusing on the teeth too much I'd say most teeth look pretty uniform in colour. I would genuinely love to have teeth like most celebs!

@Sasuma, mine are neither particularly big nor particularly white. My teeth were quite small to begin with but also very gappy with horrid small brown stains on most of them (grew in like that) So mine are the same colour my teeth were without the brown bits and slightly wider to narrow the gaps. I don’t think anyone guesses they’re not real because most people are surprised I guess because they’re not particularly white and they’re still slightly uneven/gappy.

Sasuma · 13/10/2020 20:50

@keylimecheesecake I guess though you’re seeing celebs from afar and the veneers would look quite different up close.

keylimecheesecake · 13/10/2020 20:54

I don't know Sasuma. You see them being interviewed and I still think they look pretty good! Not sure anyone's going to be too close to my mouth any time soon either! But it is something to watch out for and it's interesting to hear people's opinions on what does and doesn't look natural..

@keylimecheesecake do you know anyone who has had them in real life? It comes down to personal taste in the end though and what looks good to some doesn’t look good to others.

You’re only looking at temp ones anyway so I’m not sure how much they cost but it’s no harm in trying if it’s affordable to you!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 13/10/2020 21:01

The funniest thing I have seen on my FB in weeks is a LadBible thing featuring a few women trying on their new veneers. It made me laugh til my sides ached.

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 13/10/2020 21:04

I really wouldn’t go down the ‘snap on smile’ route, imagine you went on a date with your fake teeth on and then you had to reveal your real teeth when you have to put them in a glass beside your bed at night! Save up for composite veneers instead which are cheaper than porcelain and far less invasive (and you don’t have to take them off at night!)

Shimy · 13/10/2020 21:12

Are those what Rylan has got? If so, don’t do it.

My partner got them.... they weren't cheap either. I think he went for the Insta smile ones.
He has an off bite and wasn't happy with his teeth (i think they're fine)
Anyways..... he got the impression kit, sent them off and the day came when they arrived.
He looked horrendous!!
Literally like Rylan 😂😂
They didn't last long coz he took them out while driving and they fell out of the car at the petrol station and he accidentally drove over them 😂😂😂😂
Waste of a few hundred quid!

Bloomburger · 13/10/2020 21:25

Can you get your own teeth white need and straightened by the dentist?

My friend has veneers and they've slipped and now they look awful and she has to have them done again at huge cost.

MoltonSilver · 13/10/2020 21:26

.

Has anyone tried snap on veneers?
MoltonSilver · 13/10/2020 21:28

Get your teeth whitened by a dentist. The products you buy yourself generally aren't strong enough unless you get them in the U.S.

Redruby25 · 13/10/2020 21:32

Snap on veneers, wait lol I've been off the dental scene for too long!

I agree having worked in the field, and seen plenty of teeth lol, some veneers look okay, others ridiculous. I remember one particular person who worked as an air hostess, the blinding white smile was just too much 🤦‍♀️🤣

keylimecheesecake · 13/10/2020 21:48

My own teeth are thankfully quite straight (had braces as a child but they were never that bad to begin with) and I've had them done with the trays from the dentist. Didn't get an amazing result though to be honest and I found it all a bit gross. I did get some benefit though and if I could do whitening more often with the strips that might be a solution (I find the strips a lot less gross than the trays and you only have to wear them for 30 minutes). Going to try that first but the snap ons do seem a bit too good to be true! Interesting to hear about your partner's experience Princess - although shame he didn't have a better experience given the cost!

You'd be better off saving up for composite veneers. Snap on ones look very very false - worse than dentures to be honest. Unless you're willing to pay a lot of money - and even then, you can't eat with them in.

keylimecheesecake · 13/10/2020 21:51

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels to be honest I really just want the whiter teeth for when I want to wear certain lipstick shades. Without lipstick my teeth don't look that bad. But I do miss my younger days before I took the dastardly tetracycline when I could wear orangey lipsticks and look quite good (I was surprised I suited orange but it seems to work with my very pale colouring!). Luckily I seem to have got off lightly from the tetracycline staining as some of the photos I've seen are pretty awful.

I asked my dentist about veneers because I felt my front teeth looked a bit dingy. She said there was no way she would file down perfectly healthy teeth, that my teeth were actually plenty white. She suggested an airflow Polish if I really wanted to do something. It really brightened them up, and pre Covid I had it done every time I got a checkup.

Her take on it was that we are so used to “Hollywood white” teeth on TV, social media etc that people have forgotten what a naturally white smile looks like.
