Inverted Triangles, what do you wear in winter that doesn't add bulk to your shoulders...

...but still keeps you warm?

Following this! I think I am probably an inverted triangle...

FWIW I wear close fitting jumpers that work well for this. Coats are hard!

SwampyArmpits · 13/10/2020 10:39

@lollipopstickyfeet What sort of necklines do your close-fitting jumpers have?

I've yet to find a winter neckline/sleeve combo that suits me 😞

I’d also like to know the answer! Currently I wear v-neck fitted jumpers, apparently v-necks are good for inverted triangles.

I wear v neck jumpers. I love cable knits but have never found one that suits me sadly, they just make my top half look wider all over, and I'm slim at a size 8. With coats I've given up finding the perfect one, and when it gets cold I only care that I'm warm enough. Hats are strange, and brighter or paler colours look better than dark, I think perhaps they detract from my manly wide shoulders. Also a long scarf, which is useful with all the v necks, helps when a coat look particularly atrocious

lollipopstickyfeet · 13/10/2020 13:26

@SwampyArmpits crew neck I find ok... if the right material/cut. I prefer it to v neck style wise and kind of go with the slightly bigger shoulders it probably gives me! I make sure it’s fitted on the waist a bit to give hourglass definition if that makes sense... I’m an hourglass I think in terms of small waist/big chest but with big shoulders and small hips so really more of a triangle??

It’s quite confusing...

SwampyArmpits · 13/10/2020 14:11

@PygmyHippoBob Most of the tops I currently own are v-necks for that reason, but I still feel self-conscious! The only thing that seems to draw attention away from my Hulk-like shoulders is a vest top or something else that doesn't cover them...not very practical during winter 😞

@gindinner A long scarf sounds like a good idea, I'll bear that in mind!

@lollipopstickyfeet Sounds as though we have a very similar frame, but I find crew necks to be one of the least flattering! Confusing indeed...🤔

Crew neck for me - I never knew why I looked so bad in roll neck jumpers until I realised that I was an inverted triangle.

Now I also wear slash neck jumpers but I hate v neck jumpers (just personal to me). I have one roll neck cable knit that looks good but it is a low, wide neck and a wide swing style.

My ideal is to find these wonderful trapeze shaped, crew neck, slim knit jumpers that I bought in H and M years ago - they were fab and really suited my shape with skinny jeans.

I now wear oversized jumpers or sweatshirts with either leggings or skinny trousers and either runners or hiking boots or wellies depending on the level of rain!!! I have an A line puffa coat from Zara that looks amazing (really suits my shape) and I have a cocoon shaped navy wool coat from Whistles that also suits my shape. And I have an A line rain jacket from Isle Jacobsen that also looks good with the skinny leg shape.

Other days I wear wide leg trousers with trainers, a cropped jumper and a denim jacket or leather jacket, but the weather has to be more mild autumn than crazy cold winter for that.

I wear round neck cardigans, undone, which I feel draws the eye inwards. I normally size down as I can't usually get them over my bust even in the right size. I wear a thermal vest and have also been starting to look at short sleeved jumpers underneath so you get the warmth but not the bulk. Only ever thin/fine knits like cashmere. Jumpers don't work so well for me even though I love them on others

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 13/10/2020 19:25

Merino or cashmere sweaters, slim fitting crew neck or oversized V neck. And I'm a coat addict.

SwampyArmpits · 13/10/2020 19:48

Crew necks seem to be quite popular on this thread, might have to reconsider my stance...🤔

V necks and slash necks work best, they are cold though so I also like a big cowl or knitted cowl

I have a duffel coat and find that style suits me as I’m slim hipped.

I agree that hats look weird. I always thought it was because I have a huge head.

Paddyclova · 13/10/2020 20:09

I like a long coat for inverted triangle shapes. Emma Willis for Next left open is very flattering

Laska2Meryls · 13/10/2020 20:16

I so struggle with coats, something that will go over shoulders and boobs is always huge on bum and hips.. I really hate having to get xl or xxl jackets or coats to accommodate my top (North face looking at you) and 8 to 10 bottoms.. I am not overweight ( well not much - a Corona 10lbs atm) for my 5'6, but also long in the body which doesn't help
Anyway I wear big long jumpers crew neck is fine and jeans mostly.. I just put up with jackets..
