Size 16 on a VERY good day - usually an 18 Grin

DD has told me how out of date skinny jeans are, so am looking for recommendations please!

Go to next, try on if you can.

JoJoSM2 · 11/10/2020 21:51

I’ve just got myself jeans from Zara. Thick denim, high waist, no rips etc My style is slightly wide but they’ve got different ones that probably wouldn’t be considered frumpy even if more grown up.

Oly4 · 11/10/2020 22:04

M&S Harper jeans, high waist to hold everything in, slim leg but not skinny

Iamthewombat · 11/10/2020 23:25

I second the M&S Harper jeans. I’m bored of skinny jeans too and these are the biz. I’ve got them in 3 different colours.

thedevilinablackdress · 12/10/2020 07:40

Levi's classic 501s for me.

Sooverthemill · 12/10/2020 07:44

Actually skinny jeans are having a resurgence so I read. Maybe because knee length boots are too. So, wear what you like anyway of course but I love the slim, the straight and the relaxed straight styles around. You need to try on millions of pairs. M&S highly recommended but didn't suit my body but F&F, topshop, Arket, weekend, H&M all have great jeans at a decent price point

Sooverthemill · 12/10/2020 07:45

@thedevilinablackdress I've bought 6 pairs this year...

thedevilinablackdress · 12/10/2020 07:59

@sooverthemill
I can't stop stalking them on eBay Grin

AuntieStella · 12/10/2020 08:04

If you're happy with skinnies, stick with them

You have to be really thin to wear the styles which are wider than you are.

But if you want a change, go for the looser 'mom' style which still taper towards the ankle (legs are meant to be narrower at the bottom, and if you go wider than straight cut, it really does give a large/wide and solid outline)

MacbookHo · 12/10/2020 08:29

Wear what suits you, not what “fashion” dictates.

Straight legs would be flattering - they do balance everything out. Or even a bootcut?

I just lost 4 stone and am the thinnest I’ve ever been, but I still can’t wear Mom or Boyfriend jeans. My bum is flat and my tummy is rounded, and those styles just accentuate both. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I find skinny coated jeans are really flattering, they seem to suck-in and lift. I’ve been buying them on eBay. Total bargains.

I used to find Next and Dorothy Perkins (I think) jeans flattering. M&S jeans don’t do anything for me. Not sure why.

Good luck!

SpeckledyHen · 12/10/2020 08:36

I like NYDJ straight jeans from eBay . Massively cheaper.

Beebumble2 · 12/10/2020 09:43

Almost can’t believe I’m saying this, but Bonmarche Susie and Sarah jeans are great. One is skinny and the other straight, it would depend on your calves how they fit, I have a 12.
They wash beautifully. The company seems to be in a bad way, so I’ve stocked up, offers on.

Elllllle · 12/10/2020 10:34

I'm another that finds M&S jeans completely meh. Thin/too stretchy and synthetic, much prefer the aesthetic of 501s (& some local brands which presuming you are in the UK won't help you at all).

InsertHilariousUserName · 12/10/2020 12:21

Thanks all - googling now!

Have a look on Midlifechic.com - she did a review of Uniqlo Straight leg /wider jeans recently

teta · 12/10/2020 13:13

Nydj Marilyn are the best for me. Straight & can be rolled up to form a cuff if needed.

custardbear · 12/10/2020 14:02

I like Per Una as they're stretchy!

AuntMasha · 12/10/2020 14:20

Levi’s do a size 14 + range of different styles and lengths. Have a look on their online shop.

Though Levi’s are more expensive, they’re made well and last.

I'm a 16-18 too and I like straight jeans better than either skinny or bootcut. My legs aren't long enough for bootcut and my feet are too huge for skinny! Peacocks is my go-to place for jeans as they usually have all the shapes.
