Marks and Spencer jeans

I usually get a few pairs of M&S jeans in the January sales. Whilst I don't love them, they usually fit well and do the job of 'everyday throw-on-in-the-morning jeans'. I have a voucher to use & been looking at a getting a new pair as the last ones I got were a wee bit short (the regular length) but I bought them because they were only about £13!
I've just been looking at reviews of their jeans, including the Sophia straight cut ones, and a lot of recent reviews mention their sizes changing, such as 'since fit shake up' & 'due to changes in measurements' Has anyone found this, or heard of M&S changing their sizing? I always had to size down in M&S & found their regular length just a smidgen too short. Now I'm wondering if they have 'corrected' or improved their sizing and I should order my normal size. Ta!

I bought a pair of their skinny jeans last week, in theory the same as the pair I bought last year. Same size. Old ones have shrunk a bit in the wash but the new pair are more than an inch narrower across the waist HmmHmmHmmHmm

That's what I'm getting from a lot of the reviews - they seem to have 'overcorrected' their sizes!

I bought exactly the same m&s jeans in 2 different colours. One fits perfectly the other is huge! This was a few months apart that I'd purchased them. Otherwise really good!

Yeah I just bought a pair but had to size up. The waist is a bit baggy though. I haven’t decided if I’ll keep them yet...

I find the cheaper ones slightly smaller - I have Lily slim leg ones that cost £19.50 that are skin tight but boyfriend ones that cost £39.50 are loose. They have changed them though, I used to sometimes size down or they would be a bit big in years gone by (I'm still the same weight so it's not that)

I agree with @motherofgod2 my Lily jeans are a sknnnier fit than my magic shaping ones, same size and leg shape. I like both and find the leg length just right for me, at 5’7

They’ve definitely changed. I have a 2 year old pair of skinnies that fit perfectly and a new pair of skinnies (ivy, I think) which I can’t do up by some distance. It’s a lot more than just the old ones softening up or stretching a bit.

It’s a massive PITA as I used to swear by Marks jeans. Not the most dynamically styled, but absolute bankers for fit. I’ve switched to Fatface which have a lot less to choose from but seem to be good quality and consistent fit.

Spinningdot · 10/10/2020 12:45

It is a PITA because they were so reliable :/

Any idea when this happened?

No, but a lot if the very recent reviews mention it. I had a Google but didn't really find anything. The last ones I got were in January but I was living in them over lock down & I thought it was time for some (longer) new ones. I've ordered the Sophia straight in long in two sizes & I'm just hoping that 1) one is the right size & 2) I'll not be tripping over them. I'm not even tall (5ft 5"!) But their regular ones were just that bit too short

I have just bought a new pair of M&S jeans as my old ones are wearing out and with nowhere having fitting rooms open it seemed best to go for exactly the same ones again. They seem exactly the same to me. It worked!

Spinningdot · 13/10/2020 11:44

Well I picked them up yesterday, they are really nice when brand new! really good colour and really soft.
My normal-size ones fit well but the long is now really long! The 1-size-down ones do up but with a resulting generous muffin-top. That's convincing enough for me that they've changed their sizes as my weight hasn't changed in the last 9 months. Before, and consistently for the last 3 - 4 years, I've had to go down a full size in M&S jeans for a good 'normal' fit, and get them in long. I still don't want to swap these new ones for 'regular' though as the last regular ones were half way up my ankle & let me say it again - I'm not tall!

I’ve not noticed this and love their current range, so comfy ... and cheap!
