My ds 18 is hacked off with his yellow teeth....I have told him they are not yellow per se just normal and not towied to the max. I have bought various toothpastes with little difference. I have asked the dentist who recommended a place I have heard less than satisfactory things about. Any suggestions....?

What about those whitening strips you can get in Boots?

Bearnecessity · 08/10/2020 21:20

I bought some but haven't got round to trying them yet. Can't remember the name but I went in a big Boots and they had several different types

I've looked online and at reviews, a lot bemoaning how it only lasts a couple of days....let me know how you get on.

I bought some Pearl Drops toothpaste and it does work pretty well.

I think these are the whitening strips you mentioned.
They are very good and made quite a bit of difference to colour of my teeth. I used them last thing at night to make sure I didn’t eat anything, in case of immediate staining, for a good few hours.

Most dentists do home whitening now where you wear gumshields filled with whitening gel overnight. That would probably be his best option rather than wasting your money on kits from Boots. The problem with teenagers nowadays I find is they compare their perfectly healthy normal coloured teeth to the awful Turkish crowns/filtered/ photoshopped pictures of celebrities they see on Instagram. If your dentist has a shade guide they could show your son where he is on the scale and then know whether whitening would be worthwhile doing or reassure him his teeth are fine as they are.

CoronaCurls · 11/10/2020 20:34

Definitely don't try Pearl Drops!! It is very abrasive and will remove the enamel quite quickly and leave you with sensitive teeth.

I used to be a dentist, and could always spot a Pearl Drops user.

Thanks for the sensible advice Mocha and Corona, sadly mocha our current dentist is pants I have no faith in her or her advice. I know how awful that sounds but there it is... I am trying to change but it is not easy in covid times.Hopefully I'll find one with a home whitening treatment like you suggest mocha.
