What are your thoughts on black boots with jeans?

I was searching for flat grey Chelsea boots (another thread) to go with slim dark denim jeans. I never feel black leather boots go with denim, somehow. But what about black suede or nubuck?

Please don't suggest tan/brown. I'm a winter who avoids all earth tones and lives in blue-black-grey-white-odd dash of pink :)

I agree about black leather boots with jeans. They just don't look right. I always wear brown boots, but I think suede or nubuck would be OK in black. Definitely better than ack leather

What about burgundy, or cherry?

Doesn't it depend on the rest of the outfit? I think black boots look smarter and would be ok with darker new jeans and dark top /jacket but brown is more relaxed and goes with less formal overall look. Suade or nubuk are less formal than black leather but it is still about the overall look for me. Black boots and washed out jeans are a bit 80s imho (I am no fashion guru though)

I have some dark green DM Chelsea boots - they seem (to me at least) to go with dark denim, black and navy bottoms

DMs aren't really my style but I take on board the suggestion of dark red thanks.

Well everyone in France wears black leather boots with denim and I do too. I love Navy with black. I really dislike suede and nubuck but this is due to living in a wet climate. They always look tatty after 2 wears here.

I often wear black boots with blue denim, and brown boots with black denim. No problem with either for me!

If you don't like pure brown would you wear taupe? (Greyish brown or brownish grey?) I think that is a very versatile colour and it definitely works with blue jeans. Another possibility might be a dark metallic colour, probably pewter if you prefer cool colours.

I thought yuk when you said grey but they are nice. I wear black boots with denim, but hadn't really thought about it.

I didn't realise it was a strange thing to do - I always wear black boots with jeans and have a range of different options. I do wear tan too but black is my default.

M & S have some surprisingly nice (and reasonably priced) ankle boots this year. Not my usual go to but I've just bought a black and brown pair. They also have Chelsea boots in black.

I have always worn black leather books- ankle and knee boots- with denim jeans. Brown is okay but I don't like grey.

I don't like all black though- boots and bag. It's black boots for me and a tan bag or a grey bag.

Always have worn black boots with denim. It's very normal surely.

Fair enough if you don't like it, but surely jeans and a pair of black boots is the very definition of normal?
I do like black jeans and brown boots; pleasingly 80s in my mind.

I totally get it op. Sometimes it can look amazing but both blue jeans and black boots are such staple (sometimes boring) items that if they’re not styled right, they can look very thrown on but not in a good way. Something about it can look off. I’ve attached a pic I love and a pic I hate.

I love the left pic, it's down to the very pale raw edge jeans with what looks to be very shiny or patent boots. The other pic is a much more dated look.
Personally I don't wear black boots (or even black) at all but I think suede or newbuck is a softer look and so looks better than black leather with jeans. I second the burgundy suggestion though if you can find some.
