Is Toast knitwear worth the price?

I am a little obsessed with the alpaca cardigan in sapphire and justifying it on the basis of staying warm wfh! I have dropped a couple of dress sizes this year so have been replacing a lot of my wardrobe and have no knitwear now that doesn’t swamp me. So I can’t decide if I can go ahead and spend so much on one cardigan (I have 15% off but it’s still £130!) or if I need to be sensible and buy three or four different cardigans for the same price!

Is there another more reasonably priced cardigan like this one somewhere else or will I just wear the Toast one so much it will pay for itself???

I have a few shirts from toast and they are great quality, but never had any luck with their knits. I have bought a few things over the years, but they weren't that special so all returned. IMHO alpaca is not that great either, happy to pay for good cashmere.

Somehow MN has a lot of toast fanatics though so I am sure there would be a whole lot of people telling you they would be worth it!!

I would say wait for the sale. They usually have good sales and I imagine this year the sales would be even better.

I bought this three days ago, and it hasn’t been off my back since. It’s warm and soft - I did size up one size as I like it buttoned and a slightly more boxy fit. It’s not 100% alpaca though, but I suspect the mixed fibres helps give it structure and robustness. It’s not showing any pilling or rubbing after about 30 hours wear. I dithered a lot before buying as it’s the price of a coat, but for me, I decided for my lifestyle for the foreseeable it was a better buy than a coat. I’d rather be warm and feel vaguely stylish at my dining room table than be looking sadly at a coat I can’t wear.

Sorry - I’m not sure that you really needed my enabling. The colour is also perfect though!

My take on anything expensive like this is do it for one or two items you think you'll really wear, look after and that will last. I have ordered two items from hush for example which tbh I think is overpriced but they are lovely colour wise and really handy so I balance that out with Next, M&S and I got two things in the & Otherstories sale also. The sapphire is a lovely shade and a bit different. Well done on the weight loss, you deserve a treat! I am the same and have been spending way too much Grin

I do the same with skincare, some eye watering expensive serums and then some 10euro ones. Works for me.

I bought a sweater that I LOVED from Toast. Went very bobbly, and shrank horribly the first time I washed it even though I treated it with ultimate care within the instructions.

CaptainBrickbeard · 07/10/2020 11:25

Ooh mixed reviews! I’m still undecided. It’s the colour that I’m really drawn to; I think that I would wear and wear it based on the sapphire shade, it’s exactly my colour. But at the price I’d want to be sure it wasn’t going to bobble or shrink!

I think if something of that price bobbles and shrinks when you've taken care of it you would be due your money back, seriously that's dreadful. I would also aim to wash it as little as humanly possible!!

Everything I have bought from Toast has been great quality. Could you share the code you have? Smile

CaptainBrickbeard · 07/10/2020 12:29

It was a refer a friend code so I think it only works once - I bought a dress in the summer, emailed a referral to my mum and she bought something so now I have 15% off my next purchase.

You can buy it and send it back if it’s not all you hoped it might be

LunaNorth · 07/10/2020 12:33

I agonised over spending £250 on a cardi from Toast last year. I even started a thread on here!

I succumbed in the end, and have never regretted it. It’s warm, soft, the perfect colour, non-itchy and gets comments every time I wear it.

Go for it!

ilovecherries · 07/10/2020 15:35

I have a 20% refer a friend code if anyone would like it.

ilovecherries · 07/10/2020 15:37

It needs to be emailed though, it’s not a numerical code, so understand if it makes anyone uncomfortable. But you can pm your email address if you want and so will forward it.

russianred · 07/10/2020 20:18

Oooh yes please! Will message you now!

CaptainBrickbeard · 16/10/2020 10:32

The sapphire alpaca cardigan has just arrived and I LOVE IT. The colour is to die for, it’s so soft and warm and snuggly. So glad I went for it!
