Help - funeral dress for a casual dresser

Name change for this as it could be outing.

A very close relative is in the final stages of cancer and it's not looking like she will have long left, and we will be looking at a funeral in the next month or two.

I don't want to have to rush to find something to wear, or get worried about what I'm wearing, so want to find something in advance.

I don't ever dress up - live in jeans and t-shirts - and don't own any smart shoes. I'm 5ft4, late 20s and a size 14. Please can anyone help?

OP - as others upthread have said these days it's more casual and dark jeans/trousers and top would be fine - the important thing is that you are there - and if anyone makes snide comments about your outfit that's says more about what's lacking in them than you.

If though it's important to you that you wear a dress or skirt navy/dark colour is fine.

Just to echo what a pp said, I bought a new dress for my dads funeral thinking I would wear it again and I literally couldn't bear to look at it after the funeral so I wouldn't spend too much money on something new in case you feel the same way.
