Smart work trousers

Starting a new job in November and need to look smart/elegant as an expectation of the role.

I have lots of dresses, but am seriously lacking in the trouser department - everything is polyester, hems drop really quickly (I can't sew), shrink in wash or go knee shaped at the knees (iyswim) etc

I've decided I should take the plunge and go for some better quality trousers. But am finding it a nightmare and ordering loads, just to return it all straight away.

Size 14, but usually need a size 16 to cope with large tummy overhang (as a result of weight loss) but then find size 16 are really saggy on the butt.

Any recommendations?

If it helps, I'm hourglass shape and suit high waisted trousers better. I tend to shop in the sales/vinted/ebay for brands like Hobbs, Phase Eight, M&S, M&Co, Monsoon. Happy to do colours, patterns etc.

Budget of £150, but would ideally like 3-4 pairs for this. My only hard stop is that they have to be machine washable!
