Socks - where sells decent ones?

I'm after some thickish Autumnal coloured socks to wear with brogues and Docs - would love orange, red, brown, mustard etc, but ideally plain not patterned.

Men's will probably be too big, I'm a size 4.5 (37.5) shoe, more kids' sized!

Found a brown 100% wool pair on Amazon for £12! That's A LOT for one pair (although I did treat myself Blushand they are perfect!!)

Where can I find more for a LOT less please? Thanks Smile

Corrymoor make the very best socks on the planet. They are not cheap, but they are warm, wash well and never ever smell, even after you have worn them for several days. It's a small business, sustainable, and the socks make great presents for any difficult-to-buy-gifts-for men with outdoor jobs. Buy them a single pair, and they will want them as presents forever.

XingMing · 03/10/2020 20:44

I do not work for them, but they are the greatest cold weather socks I've ever found. Harder wearing than alpaca, cashmere and possum and much more straightforward to wash. Better not tumble-dried, but they will survive it occasionally.

XingMing · 03/10/2020 20:49

@Thingsarel00kingup, I actually think you will not find what you want on the cheap; it costs proper money to make an item well, and the small family businesses still need to eat and make a profit. If you care enough, buy better but less.

Tk maxx have amazing socks but again expensive (have gotten them for presents and as presents and they were gorgeous!! Also Next

ruthieness · 03/10/2020 20:55

Those Sock snob socks say that they are only 8% wool.....

han01uk · 03/10/2020 21:01

Tkmaxx... have a look at happy socks, they have great colours and tkmaxx have a good selection at the moment, I got some lovely coloured bamboo ones,£5 for 3 pairs and they're bright and colourful and soft too...

Tolleshunt · 03/10/2020 21:36

Don’t know how warm you want them, but BAM bamboo socks are amazing. So comfy to wear and warm in cold weather and cool in warmer weather. They have reinforced toes and just feel so much nicer on than cotton or wool ones.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 03/10/2020 21:40

I came to say BAM too - lovely socks!

WellTidy · 03/10/2020 21:42

I find that BAM socks are way too loose on the very top. I don’t like tight socks, but they always fall down on me and my legs are not slim.

OperationallySound · 03/10/2020 21:45

I also like bamboo socks. Seasalt do some great ones if you can find any Bam ones.

Voodoorain · 03/10/2020 22:32

I came on to say BAM too. Years ago they sent me a pair of socks as a marketing strategy and I thought ‘Ha, you can’t make me buy your socks by sending me a free pair. Especially when I found out how much they were. But they were the best socks I’d ever had (I didn’t even know socks could be good) and to I’ve guessed it I ended up buying some. They seem to be slightly padded on the bottom and soft and stretchy. I don’t work for BAM by the way Grin

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/10/2020 23:28

Another BAM vote.

dudsville · 03/10/2020 23:37

xingming, I always recommend then too! Lovely small business producing a narrow range of stuff really well. OP, I have 8 pairs from them in the range of colours you seek and I love them.

Blownaway22 · 03/10/2020 23:51

Another vote for BAM. They have sent me around 6 pairs ... I must be due another pair soon 😂.

Silverstreaks · 05/10/2020 19:56

I second Corrymoor. I asked for a pair for Xmas 3 or 4 years ago and they are still going strong (for walking the dog when it's cold). No holes, thin bits, or fraying. They are bloody marvelous

XingMing · 05/10/2020 20:04

I have told you all how much I love Corrymoor socks endlessly, but to prove a point, I still wear the first pair I was given 15 years ago. They have not shrunk, or developed holes, although they are a bit thinner than they started, which makes them suitable for year round wear with walking boots, as they are no longer too warm in summer.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 05/10/2020 20:08

these are lovely. Very barginous and very warm and very cosy.

They are mostly patterned though and the plain is not your requested colours. One of the patterned is on lightening deals though (just over £1 a pair)

Hazelnutlatteplease · 05/10/2020 20:09

Oh and they wash and tumble dry fine
