Manchester or Birmingham for shopping?

Planning a shopping trip.
Where do you think is best for shopping?
Not fancy expensive shops just nice reasonably priced shopping?

Truthfully now John Lewis Birmingham is closed, if you are slap bang in middle of both, I’d go to Manchester. Some fantastic shopping in Manchester

Manchester, the Trafford Centre if you want to keep it under one roof. But remember most changing rooms are closed.

Or order online so you can try on at home and return by post.

I'm about 2 hours from Manchester and 3 1/2 from Birmingham.

God Manchester, everytime. I work in both cities, Birmingham used to be great but has gone downhill whereas Manchester just keeps getting better. Avoid the Trafford Centre, horrible maze of a place.

HildegardVonBingen · 03/10/2020 15:28

Manchester city centre is great. Trafford Centre is just another mall though - just high street names, and often small units.

Birmingham is pretty horrible now, and the loss of John Lewis and Jigsaw a real blow. I dislike Manchester too though, unless it's improved in the last couple of years.

Birmingham.
Isn't Manchester under lock down?

Ellewoods20 · 03/10/2020 16:11

Manchester is better for shopping. VillageGreenTree shops are still open in Manchester.

Frappuccinofan · 03/10/2020 19:36

If you don’t want any fancy or expensive stores, I’m guessing you’re just after the usual high street brands? In that case it may just be easier to shop online and save yourself the trip. Shops are always busier this time of year and even with COVID, I don’t think this year will be any different (particularly as shopping is one of the only things to do right now!)

MabelMoo23 · 03/10/2020 19:43

Being that far from either and no changing rooms being open - therefore it’s a long way to go to return something. I’d shop online truthfully

I prefer Liverpool. Find Manchester incredibly boring, lots of shops in Trafford Centre but nothing I want to buy.

Tigger03 · 03/10/2020 19:47

A couple of stores in Manchester have fitting rooms open - mango definitely does at least as I popped in recently

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/10/2020 23:20

Liverpool is definitely better than either Birmingham or Manchester.
