Hats for autumn

Over the last few years I have become a hat wearer. I have straw hats for summer, woolly bobble hats for winter, and a rain hat for wet weather. But I need something for autumn which is warm but not as warm as a woolly hat, and pref. rainproof for all that autumn drizzle, and suitable for wearing when out walking the dog OR walking around town.
Does such a thing exist?

Me too! I’ve been looking here but not yet decided what would work for me.

What shape rain hat do you have?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 01/10/2020 23:04

Ooooo quite tempted by a waxed sports cap from that site!

Beret! In bright colours to cheer you up and bring your outfit together

Love a beret or a cap but if it’s drizzling the downside is weird hat hair when you take it off. I’d go for something with a brim for the rain - a nice wool felt fedora, or a bucket hat (absolutely everywhere this season) for a more casual look.

Oh my, there's some lovely ones there!
I have a very simple, basic black rain hat with brim. It's a thin, foldable material which is handy for putting in bag but not at all warm.

I have a cotton/wool knitted beret from JL last year- it's exactly right for the temperatures at this time of year.

I've struggled all my life to find hats that I felt suited me until I discovered berets last year. Traditional style felted wool ones. I have several different colours now.

They don't wreck my hair & I love them Smile

The fedora linked above would be my obvious choice, I could NOT carry off a beret but have a friend who rocks a jaunty little beret beautifully!

I’ve just bought a Barbour wool fedora but I almost bought the waxed version as it would have been better for rainy days.

Not sure if that’s enough to keep you warm, though. If not I’d probably go for a light beanie/beret.

I’ve just got my Tilley wool hat out, won’t need the ear flap for a while yet hopefully!

I've discovered a whole world of wonderful hat styles I didn't know existed, so thank you!

I think a beret can look fab but I don't htink it will really keep my head warmer than a woolly hat/beanie would, and I need to think about rain and hair which goes very frizzy. So something with a brim is necessary.
