What's happened to my lips?

My DD recently pointed out that there is a weird looking line/discolouration around my lips, especially the top lip. See photo below. I think it must be quite recent because I've never noticed before. But now she's mentioned it I've become really self conscious and worried it looks like a moustache!

Any idea what this is and how to get rid of it? I don't ever wear makeup but are there any lotions/potions available for this sort of thing? Or do I need lasers or something? Help!

What's happened to my lips?

It's melasma (sun moustache). There's quite a lot online around how to diminish it, but this is quite good from Paula's Choice.

Yes melasma. It happens more if you are pregnant or on birth control pills due to the hormones. But some women get it even without those things.

I have this to. I'm going to watch this thread with interest because I've yet to find anything that's got rid of it!

The Ordinary Vitamin C made my sun spots fade, but I don't have this.

I have something similar but its on the actual edge of the lip so looks like I'm wearing a slightly orangey lip liner all the time. Very annoying.

Janegrey333 · 01/10/2020 16:04

Can you use a cover up to conceal it?

stevalnamechanger · 04/10/2020 02:28

Dermatica can prescribe HQ / Tretinoin which will shift it .

You need you use daily sunscreen too

NCWeirdLips · 04/10/2020 16:19

Thanks for the replies, at least I know what it is now! I'm going to buy some Vitamic C serum. If that doesn't work I'll try the Dermatica stuff. Has anyone here tried it?
