Who tints their eyebrows?

Tinks15 · 28/09/2020 21:10

Wondering whether to start tinting my own eyebrows rather than paying for someone to do them?

Firstly, is it fairly easy to do without staining your skin (the lady I use always makes them look so good) & secondly which is the best product to use?

Hi @Tinks15 - I do my own brows, and it's really easy. I use Julienne dye in dark brown and apply the mixed dye to my brows with an old, clean mascara wand. I then use cotton buds to tidy up and remove any dye that I might have smudged onto my skin. It's fine if you swipe it off reasonably quickly.

I started in lockdown. I use Eyelure. It is super easy (I doubt I will ever pay a salon again and I'm really not artistic, steady handed or generally good at this sort of thing). Just use Vaseline, applied with a cotton bud, to coat around the eyebrow so you don't dye the skin. If after any is on your skin give it a good scrub to remove extra dye.

Ilovesausages · 29/09/2020 03:14

I use just for men beard dye and it’s awesome!

Monty27 · 29/09/2020 03:37

Yes. Eyelure here too. Easy peasy and takes minutes.
Don't forget to wash it off like I did one night and looked like one of the Marx brothers the next morning. It took a bit of washing off the next day but I did giggle about Grin

groovergirl · 29/09/2020 07:23

Yep. I use Herbatint to do my grey roots, and my final task is to dab a fine line on my brows.

I should add that I've been doing this routine for years and am very, very careful. Herbatint gives a great result -- natural-looking colour and nicely defined.

Lndnmummy · 29/09/2020 08:28

Yes I do too! I mix a brown dye with a grey one and the result is great, slightly ashy. Love it.
I do my eyelashes too but find that slightly trickier. I will experiment a bit with this

PegasusReturns · 29/09/2020 08:33

I use eyelure. Really easy, 10 mins from start to finish.

You can avoid getting it on your skin by using a mascara brush to apply but I find even if it does get on your skin a couple of wipes with some sort of astringent toner (I use alpha A) gets it off.

SenorFrog · 29/09/2020 08:36

I use eyelure and apply it with a thin paint brush. Takes minutes.

silentpool · 29/09/2020 08:37

It is so easy, I would never pay for it again. I've been using Eyelure but may try one of the other brands next. I do dark brown for eyebrows and black for eyelashes but I'd like to try blue-black for lashes next. Definitely do the Vaseline around the brows, that way there are no worries about staining.

Tinks15 · 29/09/2020 08:46

Thanks all, think I’m going to go for it. There’s one I’ve seen on amazon that I’m considering ordering I think it’s called refectocil & then I believe I’ve got to order the developer. Has anyone tried these?

Following, thanks OP!

PegasusReturns · 29/09/2020 13:25

Yes the eyelure is a dye with a developer. You just mix the two together.

The othe brand which is very good is refectocil but I couldn’t get the right shade on Amazon recently.

allundercontrol · 29/09/2020 13:56

Another one for eyelure - just don't forget the vaseline and have a few cotton buds to hand for any smudges. I use the pink vaseline to make sure I haven't missed a bit of skin when I'm prepping! I won't ever pay for a professional tint again

IShouldBeSoLurky · 29/09/2020 15:10

Eyelure here and it’s dead easy. I don’t bother with vaseline and am not tidy about it - any staining washes off within 24 hours.

CornflakeMum · 29/09/2020 15:14

Yup, enough eyelure user here. I use an old mascara wand and do my eyelashes too.
I have to use a magnifying mirror now though as the eyesight's not what it used to be! Sad

CaptainInsensible · 29/09/2020 15:21

I use eyelure and don’t bother with Vaseline

Antirrhinum · 29/09/2020 15:24

I've been dying my lashes and brows for over 25 years, usually with Eylure or Colorsport and don't bother with Vaseline either. I find it doesn't dye the skin at all, but it does my nails if I happen to not notice I've smeared a bit on them.

margaritasbythesea · 29/09/2020 15:28

Can I hijack please and ask if any of you ate very fair, and if so how does it look? I am a redhead and my eyebrow hair is essetially transparent. I use a pencil at present but always have wondered about dye.

GemmeFatale · 29/09/2020 15:44

I’m super pale and do my own. If you’re concerned you can always leave it on for a shorter time.

If I leave it too long between goes I am shocked by the difference it makes but by day two it usually looks right.

Antirrhinum · 29/09/2020 15:47

I'm a redhead Margaritas, I use dark brown dye and leave it on for exactly 6 minutes. Any more than that is far too dark. Straight after I've dyed it, it looks a little too light, but it seems to darken after a few hours. It looks totally natural - but I have a fringe and you can't really see my brows anyway. You can start with 3 or 4 minutes and if it's not dark enough, do it again for a minute or 2.

margaritasbythesea · 29/09/2020 17:19

Thanks very much!

Balaur · 29/09/2020 17:22

OP i use refectocil, and yes you need the developer. It's really easy with great results. Vaseline around the eyebrows where you don't want it to stain.

dalrympy · 29/09/2020 17:29

Refectocil is fabulous. I started about 6 years ago with it when it was recommended on here.

pantsville · 29/09/2020 17:31

I've done mine for about 15 years I think.

Nowadays I only use the Julienne products from Amazon. Theyre brilliant, the dye takes really well and the dark brown colour is quite a neutral shade so it's neither too red nor too ashy.

When you mention dyeing the skin, do you mean around the eyebrow area (ie mistakes) or are you more referring to dying the skin beneath the brow hairs? To be honest I don't know a way you wouldnt get it on your skin unless you're somehow incredibly precise. I do find I get a tint on the skin that wears off after a couple of days because it doesn't take to the skin in the same way it does to the hairs.

My tip would be to paint the dye on as if you were filling with a pencil and really get that perfect shape, using a cotton bud to tidy the edges if you need to. Experiment with how long to leave the dye on for. Leave it a couple of minutes, wipe off, and see hoe it looks. If its not dark enough, keep applying and removing until you figure out what works best for you.

Beautiful3 · 29/09/2020 17:34

I use eyelure in black. I only leave it on for 5 minutes though! Very easy to do, and I do my eye lashes too.
