Flared Jeans - Which shoes?

I don't normally buy clothes without considering what to wear with them but on a whim I bought some flared Jeans (see pic). I usually wear mom style or skinny and I wear them with trainers, heel boots or Chelsea boots (or sandals etc in summer)

What shoes do I wear with these jeans?! Eeek I'm really not sure.

If relevant I'm 5ft 9 and 30. I like a 70s look at the moment I tend to wear big hats with my hair down (it's very long and wavy)

I’d go for pointy flats or pointy heels for an evening. I ordered some black flared jeans, they were a bit long but looked terrible on, especially with plimsol style shoes. I think you need to get the length perfect for flares to look good. Thinking of trying the next ones to see if they’re a better fit.

Sorry I would avoid pointy shoes or boots as I think they look too 90’s when everyone wore them with bootcut jeans.

I recently got a pair and wear them with platforms/flatform trainers or boots or sandals with a rounded toe and block or wedge heel. . Works better if you’re going for that 70’s look (and avoids getting a pointy heel stuck in the hem!)

I've got big feet so I'm always a bit self conscious about point as my feet look gigantic! I'll do a little fashion show with the boots I have and hope some look nice!

I think I got over excited about a new style but didn't think this through haha

I wear either chunky trainers or ankle boots with a stack heel like these

In summer wedges are good!

ChippyTea16 · 28/09/2020 02:27

I’ve been eyeing up the exact same pair! Do they fit nicely? If I get them I plan to wear them with chunky flat boots in autumn/winter and wedges in summer.

I have a pair of chunky snow boots that I think would work with them

Cowboy boots or Converse here. Although flat shoes are a pain in the rain, as if the hems touch the floor, then water soaks up your leg like blotting paper🤦‍♀️

CallarMorvern · 28/09/2020 03:21

Oh and wedge sandals in Summer, though obviously that ship has sailed for the next 7 months!

Could go all 70s authentic with Cuban-heeled boots. Remember dh wearing them when we met.

When flares were in, think from 60s to about 77-8 from memory when straight jeans came back and we didn't think they'd catch on.

( 1982 marks were doing stretch jeans in half sizes, ie 12,13,14,15 etc. Had a 23 inch waist but had to get a 15.)

Shoes from about 1969 had squared toes, which went well with flares. Heels work really well, you don't have to go for flats. See if you can find any old photos. I had some caramel zipped ankle boots from hush puppy with less pointed toes, they would have been good. Have to admit to having worn raspberry pink heels with an identical coloured twisted top from bravissimo with a v-neck, with c&a jeans that were in-between flared and boot cut. Couldn't give a flying toss if someone didn't like them. The flare balanced out my thigh, the heels lengthened my legs and the 36ff scaffolding stopped anyone looking at my arse.

Sigh, when I was first at university in 1974 a pair of 22inch wranglers (standard wear) cost £7. Should've borrowed from the bank, bought 1000 pairs as an investment. Better than my personal pension. Grin

Go for them, I would in your place.

squeekums · 28/09/2020 06:17

I wear my flares with all shoes
Heels, both sky high and smaller ones, boots, both flat and platform, sneakers, thongs, UGG boots

Its part of what I love about flares, I can wear any shoe

deedeemegadoodoo · 28/09/2020 15:02

Round toes!

Blondiney · 28/09/2020 15:32

Sneakers or squared toe boots.

@newtb in 1976 I bought a pair of parallel leg jeans from wrangler. They were the best. Men sizes from a a men's shop. Then I bought pair of 'drainpipes' from jean jenie when first away at college. Oh how awesome I looked...and I wore them with navy kickers which if I bought now would be about £90.
