Any MAC experts around?

Long story short(ish): I had been wanting to learn how to use makeup to look a bit smarter/more polished, husband bought me a MAC voucher for Christmas so I could have one of those makeup lessons that you redeemed against products. First booking didn’t work, second booking, lockdown. Now that it’s not looking likely that they will be offering the lessons anytime soon, I was wondering if the time has come for me to spend that voucher... could anyone help me with what products I should buy please? What are your best MAC purchases? And what to avoid? Currently the only products I have from them are a couple of lipsticks (Ruby Woo and Tweedy Me) and a lipgloss and all my other makeup came from Boots. Blush

Bonus points if anyone can recommend a YouTube channel to help me learn how to use makeup too. Grin
Thank you! Smile

What’s your colouring and how much do you have to spend?

bakerypots · 26/09/2020 07:25

I really love the studio fix fluid foundation and the lipstick in shade "blankety"

I would describe my skin as medium brown, my foundations tend to have the word “beige” in them (though I’m not sure if that’s a common word to use for different shades!), MAC website’s finder tool seems to be suggesting a neutral undertone but I’ve always thought it’s a bit yellow. Looks like the tool is a bit hit and miss but it’s been suggesting NC37 as foundation colour. Brown eyes and ash highlighted brown hair, bob length. I’m 40 but don’t have many lines.

The voucher is £100 but I can spend a bit more if needed.

That’s a pretty colour, not sure I could pull it off with my skin colouring though! Smile

Their Face and Body foundation is a classic. Can be light coverage (with a brush) or buildable to medium if done with fingers.

Shape and Shade eyebrow product is brilliant.

Strobelight is a cult classic. Been around for years so must be doing something right!

The 217 blending eyeshadow brush is in every make up artists kit.

I love their mascara in the blue tube - it’s good if you’ve got fine lashes as it’s not too heavy or thick.

All of their eyeshadows and blushers are brilliant and you can make up your own pallet too.

Look at Lisa Eldridge on You Tube for tutorials.

So your colouring is very different to mine so I can’t recommend colours but I agree with everything @YellowandGreenToBeSeen said. I’m also a big fan of face and body foundation now that I’m a bit older. They are very good at giving out little sample pots so you can properly check your colour over a few days.

ive been searching for my holy grail foundation for years and i always come back to face and body foundation - i do have it in a few different shades so i can mix it to get the perfect shade for me

@tywysoges you’re welcome! Happy shopping!

(I have yellow undertones / freckles / hazel eyes / dark hair and love Modesty lipstick).

Thank you all Smile - I’m not sure I will be able to get to a shop as local lockdowns starting tomorrow Sad, I might have to pause my shopping for a bit - but will start watching the videos!
