I keep seeing women I follow on Instagram whose faces don’t look entirely human. It’s not obvious plastic surgery, more like their faces aren’t made of real skin - the texture is all wrong, and the expressions on the face are all wrong. I don’t think it’s a filter as I’m watching on Stories.
They’re superficially really attractive but there’s also something ever so slightly icky about them, although I couldn’t tell you why. I follow one woman in particular, an older lady who is a very entertaining presenter, but I find her skin and facial expressions really distracting. Once I tune into that, it’s all I see and then I‘ll see it on loads of other women too.
There’s another very beautiful and young woman from a reality telly show I like, but recently her face has changed in some way that I think is meant to be imperceptible but is actually really quite obvious, and it’s not natural ageing. She’s still beautiful and yet somehow she’s not as beautiful as she was before.
It’s like something from the Uncanny Valley. They look human, but they don’t.
What is it, and am I the only person who sees this? I have friends in real life who are open about botox and it suits them, but this is something else.
