Help me pick a handbag please

My birthday is in a few weeks and along with some money I've put aside I'd like to buy a nice designer bag.
I have a LV Neverfull which I love and tend to use on a day to day basis. I am looking at a YSL Chevron Quilted Shoulder bag, a chanel WOC or a Gucci Marmount matelasse mini.
I wear a uniform in work which includes a bag, my nights out usually are once a month dinner and drinks with friends or cinema/dinner with DH. I tend to wear jeans and a nice top or a midi/tea length dress when I'm out. I want this bag to be useful for nights out. Is the Chanel/YSL too formal? Thanks

The woc won't carry much you have to bare that in mind. I have a feeling the ysl bag might be a bit heavy somehow...

Can you get the marmount in black? I think it would be good for both casual and formal outfits :)

I'd advise trying them on in store if pos.
I always wanted a Gucci Soho disco but when I tried it on in store I didnt like it as its strap was too thin and I found its zipper a bit too stiff.

I'm hoping to pop into the city in a few weeks and have a good look around without dh or dc haven't been in ages so looking forward to it ☺️ I know I picked up the ysl once but cannot remember if it was heavy or not but trying it on is definitely something I need to do.

I love all three - sorry unhelpful but I daydream about being able to afford a bag like this. I think the YSL one is probably a little more dressy. The Gucci one is beautiful, agree with pp, that in black would be great

I have a WOC and there is just about space for my Samsung s10+, cards and a small lipstick. It is very small and it gets annoying.

I have a medium envelope (ysl) and it is not that heavy - the chain weighs a bit, but it is lighter than my Bottega Veneta Olimpia which is a similar size bag.
It is however quite stiff and I don't feel like it has softened much compared to the Chanel WOC.
I'm not sure if the YSL bag you are looking at is a similar size to the WOC or if it's bigger.
I really like the size and I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the ysl bag.

I personally don't like the Gucci bag you've posted a picture of. It is a matter of taste and preference though.

If you want something very casual and young, the Gucci bag is probably the one to go for.

I do think the Ysl - and Chanel especially - will have the longevity - they are classic bags that you will not get tired of or feel look too young.

I personally prefer a dressy bag, even with jeans.

I prefer the Chanel WOC but if you need more space, have a look at their seasonal pieces. My Boy WOC is larger and more spacious than my classic WOCs. I like the Gucci Dionysus crossbody more than the Marmont, but it's very small.

I love the Gucci bag (I’m not young & don’t think it looks particularly young). I never use my bags with chain straps as they seem too dressed up for these Covid times, plus they hurt my shoulder!

Of the ones you posted I like the Chanel the most, think it's classic and can be dressed up or down.
I recently got the YSL Loulou camera bag for my birthday with the logo in black and use it every day I love it! Perfect size for cards, car/house key, phone & spare mask (think it's the same size as the Gucci Marmount)

Absolutely love all these bags I too was looking for something similar for our anniversary present from H he ended up getting me diamonds bless but now I really want a bag! I would go for chanel but as pps have said maybe slightly larger size? My sis in law went to Bicester and bought a lovely Prada for £700!! So I really want to go there now lol a day out bag shopping without anyone sounds like bliss enjoy!

I’d go for the Chanel, it’s proper luxury. I like the Ysl but it’s very much the bag everyone is getting at the moment. The Gucci is nice but it’s a bit like the mulberry Anthony, a bag for everything when you want a designer bag.

I like the Chanel - mainly because I think the silver hardware looks much more classy than the gold

Thank you everyone it's great to get some perspective. The Gucci does come in black but i saw the nude one on someone and thought it was lovely but black is probably more useful

I have the WOC and a YSL camera bag. I love them both but probably use the YSL a little more because I baby the Chanel and take more care of it.
I use them both for casual and at night but if I'm going more dressy/dinner I'll always pick the Chanel.
Out of your 3 I'd choose the Gucci last, I dont think its very dressy whereas the other 2 are, but can still dress them down.

I even find the classic Chanel small for taking to dinner so a WOC would be just too tiny. I think Dior WOCs/mini bags have more space. YSL is a bit more edgy. Gucci pebbled leather is v v sturdy but I find the squishy camera bag design quite casual - more of a crossbody daytime look.

I wouldn't get the Gucci - only because there are so many fakes of exactly that style around - if I see one, I assume it's not real.

Chanel every time, timeless and classic.

Middle one. I wouldn’t get the WOC - it’s too small and the mini is better if you want Chanel for classic evening. I always think that WOCs are for teens who have saved their birthday money for some reason.

Hi OP, I have the WOC and the Gucci Marmont in Black, the GG is much more of a day/casual bag but the WOC is more versatile as a day and night bag. However the WOC hardly holds more than your cards key and a lipstick.

I'd go for the Gucci in nude based on what you said.

I would go for the WOC as it's for a special occasion. I've just bought the marmot in pale blue with silver metal instead of the gold. I really like it but its definitely more a casual bag.

I have that Gucci bag and it’s great - it fits a lot in as it’s very deep (although your picture is not a matelasse - which are less deep than the GG marmount pictured)

My recollection is that the WOCs are very slim (couldn’t get sunglasses in them for example) and at least double the price of the marmount.

If you want a Chanel I’d go for a flap bag but they’re significantly more expensive again.

Chanel of course. Or a Celine classic box. It is one love for centuries

Oh and I should add I use the Gucci for casual day rather than evening. Looks good slung cross body with jeans and a t-shirt

I have three WOC's and I love them all. In order to maximise space use a 'Woc Saver' it goes along the bottom of the bag and slightly up the sides and I find I can get a lot more in that way.
