Sounds like it could be melasma. I don't have it so not really sure about treatments but a girl i follow on instagram (jessontheplussize) has it and im sure she's using Eucerin and has had good results

Chocachocaholic · 20/09/2020 10:12

Yes that does sound like melasma. I gave it above my lip and the area just above my nose and start or eyebrows.
I've not found a miracle cure except using factor 50 on my face and using a self tan, this year hasn't been too bad as I've not been abroad but when I go abroad it still gets much more noticeable. It fades in winter as of course there is less sun.
Have you recently been pregnant or are pregnant? I was told it is often triggered by hormones. I didn't get it with my first child but it came when I was pregnant with my second. She's now 5 and I still suffer every year 😢
Sorry I can't help with a quick fix, a heavy duty concealer should cover it. But my definite tip for you going forward is sun block on your face x

Yes melasma, I get it too. For me it’s caused by hormones so pregnancy or being on the Pill. Are you on the Pill? if so then coming off should help a lot.

princessTiasmum · 20/09/2020 23:33

Thanks for replies, not pregnant lol, it would be a miracle, on HRT though, yes could be that, only when been in the sun though,
I'm sure i read somewhere that retinol either causes it or gets rid of it,
I have been using a retinol based night cream, so that could possibly be it,
I will stop and see if it makes any difference

Hi,I have melasma on my cheeks caused by hormonal contraception.

I've tried Eucerin and other creams but the only thing that has worked has been using Hydroquinine with retinol. You can only get it prescribed by a dermatologist.

I have signed up to Dermatica which is a subscription based dermatology service. The melasma is finally fading, not sure how long it will take to go completely, and also I'm not sure if I have to continue with the cream once it has gone 🤷‍♀️.

Retinol is strong stuff so be careful.

princessTiasmum · 24/09/2020 15:16

I have googled melasma, and it says you can buy hydroquinone over the counter

It could be post inflammatory hyperpigmentation from hair removal. This is uncommon though.

Frappuccinofan · 24/09/2020 15:28

The sun can exasperate PIH, essentially giving you a suntan over the affected area. You should use sunscreen religiously

princessTiasmum · 24/09/2020 15:30

I don't have hair on my top lip, which did surprise me,as it seems to be a common thing,so don't use any hair removal cream,or razor etc

I didn't think you could buy it over the counter in the UK? I thought it had to be prescribed?

Spaceprincess · 30/09/2020 21:37

I had it for years, retinol got rid of mine. (49 deffo not up the duff)
