Loafers.....and socks

About to buy some Doc Martin loafers. For work. Smart (nhs) type job. In the summer I wear skirts or ankle length trousers with summer type moccasins. For winter I normally wear flat ankle boots with tights or boot leg office type trousers. I really like the look of straight leg trousers with chunky loafers.....but I get cold ankles! Pop socks just don't keep my feet warm. Can I wear socks? If yes what?! Need some ideas please

I've always worn socks with loafers. I prefer to be comfortable.

I’m in a similar boat. I need to wear sturdy shoes at work- my brogues fit the bill, but tend to only wear with dress and tights.
I’m leaning more towards trousers at the moment and have spent the morning unsuccessfully searching for some dark glittery socks to wear with them.
