Brunettes with highlights

Hello style and beauty community,

I recently had my hair done. I'm a brunette. For some reason, I always thought it was best to have a lightener put in the hair and then taken out when the correct colour has been reached but I do know that you can go back and just bleach and then add back in a toner to the correct colour.

Just wondering what any fellow brunettes (or any hair colour really!) with highlights think?

Also, I got my hair layered hair cut at the same time and the hairdresser did that thing where they try to cut a layer around the front of the face - again I thought this was the odd way of doing layers?

Welcome your thoughts.

My previous hairdresser just used to bleach, my current hairdresser bleaches and then puts on a toner. I have to say that the toner version gives a better colour.

I get highlights and lowlights. They bleach to light blonde and then can tone it if required. Do you mean they shaped it round your face? That's quite normal too

And they need to bleach for long enough to get the red tones out your hair or you would be left with ginger highlights

My put highlights/lowlights in. Sometimes they have then toned them, other times not.

Mine gets bleached then a toner added, and layers around the fave are quite standard unless you're after a solid Bob or suchlike
