Alternative to jeans

RedLlama · 16/09/2020 22:52

Hi everyone.

I am looking for an alternative to jean/jeggings. Ive had some long running gynaecological issues which means that jeans are just not comfy for me unfortunately. I held on as long as possible as I live in them, but I have finally had to admit that they do me no good and get rid of them. I need your help to find alternatives. I have a causal style and don’t like loose flappy trousers, or anything high waisted. My price range is new look, H&M, next kinda thing. I have several pairs of black thick material leggings, think they are ponte? Getting a bit bored of constantly being in black leggings now! I wear dresses too, but mainly trousers.

Do you know of any leggings that look jeans, but aren’t denim? Even jeggings are not comfy and they are just too firm a material.

Chinos- are these generally tight in the crotch area? Or could I get away with them?

I’m going to order some bits to try, but don’t want to order piles and piles of things and then have to faff about sending it all back!

Thanks in advance

How about some smart joggers. Hush do some good ones and Does My Bum Look 40 has done a recent blog too.

SardineJam · 17/09/2020 16:52

I know these aren't jeans however M&S has cord leggings, really comfortable www.marksandspencer.com/cord-high-waisted-leggings/p/clp60459253?image=SD_01_T57_8888_X8_X_EC_90&color=PETROLGREEN&prevPage=srp

Have you tried these from Uniqlo?

www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/women/bottoms/trousers-leggings-sweatpants/leggings-trousers

They're designed to look like trousers but feel like thick stretchy leggings.

SoapAndFury · 17/09/2020 17:09

Living in these whilst working from home. Super comfy (I also had a gynae op which means I want stretchy and comfy bottoms!).

Thanks for all the ideas ladies.

I have some of those leggings from Asda, but I just looked on the website quickly and ordered some houndstooth type ones, so that will be a nice change. So fed up of black leggings 😂

I haven’t heard of them before, are they good to order from and returns etc?

Joggers all the way, you can get jersey ones, sweatshirt material ones, velour ones....

Lorelaithe1st · 17/09/2020 19:37

I live in the Uniqlo leggings trousers recommend by a PP, they’re so comfortable as I also struggle with jeans. I’ve ordered from Uniqlo a lot and always had quick delivery and it’s easy to return.

What kind of material are they made out of, it really looks like denim jeggings material? Or it is more like really thick legging material? I like that they have pockets and look like jeans

I had my eye on these earlier:

I’m working from home for the foreseeable and haven’t quite nailed the wardrobe.

I have several pairs of H&M chino trousers. I turn them up at the ankles. They're not tight on the crotch although I'd say you need to size up.

H&M sizing is defo on the smaller side! I could rock a chino I think. Also could wear them to work as we are casual wear there. But then again they can be dressed up and down, which I like

@RedLlama they’re thicker than leggings but very soft and stretchy, I find them more comfortable than standard thin leggings.

Moonshinemisses · 17/09/2020 21:15

I know you said no flappy trousers, would harem pants work, cuffed at the ankle?

I don’t mind a cuff at the ankle, i was thinking more palazzo style pants flapping around everywhere lol

Thanks will give them a go. I have trousers from new look which are this kind of material and they are very comfy

I've bought some Girlfriend jeans from Gap and although they are jeans they are really soft and not even slightly close fitting. I feel like I'm wearing pyjamas. I got the lightest colour denim as they were the softest.

It's almost impossible to buy anything at Gap without a sale on. Mine were £27.

Rina66 · 17/09/2020 21:48

I’ve got these in various colours, they aren’t tight but aren’t baggy either. The fabric is amazingly stretchy but feels like a chino, they don’t crease and are super flattering. In some ways they’re better than jeans as I can wear denim shirts and denim jackets with them without feeling I’ve gone all Dolly Parton 😂

Thanks ladies, keep them coming. Lots of things on my shopping list now. Boyfriend will be bemused at all the parcels.

I have lived in Mountain Warehouse Quest trousers since lockdown. I have 3 pairs in different shades of grey and black. They are like combats and very comfy and lightweight. Not for everybody but I love mine and they do different leg lengths.

Sooverthemill · 18/09/2020 10:09

@RedLlama if you like the look of hush joggers look on eBay or on the 2 hush seeking pages on Facebook. Lots of bargains there. Note that hush sizes are quite generous for this type of 'bottoms'

SabrinaSalem · 18/09/2020 10:28

@RedLlama yes Uniqlo very easy for orders, I had no problem ordering & returning stuff during lockdown.

I've never had the denim leggings-trousers but the regular ones are thick enough to wear as bottoms on their own i.e. they don't need a long bum-covering top like normal leggings.
Mine have real pockets on the back but the front pockets and fly are fake.

Missushbb · 18/09/2020 11:25

Boden do nice jogging bottoms, great quality, can usually find a voucher online too
