Being more floaty

I am 43. Still in reasonably good nick. Someone on here a few months ago shared a link to One Hundred Stars who do amazing kimonos and various floaty items in fabulous fabrics. I bought three. Since then I am constantly served ads for robes, kimonos, extra long floaty cardis and so forth. And I LOVE them! But I have a fear of being frumpy. How do I navigate the line between floaty and frumpy? Is floaty even a good look for your mid 40s? I am very tall, if it helps! But large in the boob and bum department.

For reference, this is the kind of thing:

When would you wear them? Out and about? Or just at home. I think they are lovely but would only wear them at home. I suspect they wouldn’t be very flattering

LaurieFairyCake · 16/09/2020 23:06

I wear them and I'm short and overweight Grin

The prints are just so gorgeous

I wore white jeans and a lace tank top with a pink kimono - the full length swan one from 100 stars - I looked ok honestly

If you're tall then you can do floaty tops and more tailored bottoms, no? I don't think frumpy hits tall women as much.

Fidgety31 · 16/09/2020 23:12

You would look like you’re going out in your dressing gown .
Ok for indoors though

I love this shop uk.khaadi.com/woman-html/wte20206-wte20206-uk.html

The rule is to wear floaty AND tailored/tight. If you wear a kimono with trousers like sails you look like you are in PJs. I too love A Hundred Stars and I wear mine with super skinny jeans and silk vests

The character Nina from the Aussie TV series Offspring was a study in floaty boho perfection. There are loads of articles and blogs dedicated to her style.

Just googled 100 stars - looks beautiful ? What is quality like.
I love Nina from Offspring!

I'm in my forties. My style is boho and I love Camilla silk kimonos worn over skinnies either loose or with a statement belt, always with heels.

Thank you for the tips. LunaTheCat - the quality of One Hundred Stars is really nice. The fabric is very light, but they are well made.
