Best bra for the fat woman with large breasts?

SuperEkstra · 16/09/2020 18:47

At this point I don't care if it's attractive. I can't deal with underwires digging into me any more, but I have large breasts and I am fat, with rolls on my back.

Has anyone got any tried and tested recommendations? The constant discomfort has started to get me down

And does your current bra ride up at the back, more of an inverted v than straight across? That's a sure sign it's too big.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 18/09/2020 10:10

Don't forget that cup sizes increase in size as the band width increases.
So a 30 C cup is a much smaller cup than a C in a 40 C cup.

unmarkedbythat · 18/09/2020 10:14

If you can get a 36 inch tape measure around you, you can get a 36 inch bra band around you.

I can get a 32 inch tape measure around me; there is no bra I have so far tried, whether the cup size is D, DD, E, F or G, and no matter what the style is, with a 32 band that is not actually painful to wear.

SuperEkstra · 18/09/2020 12:51

That's what I don't understand about the boob or bust method. The first measurement is "so tight you think the tape might snap" then it goes on to give me that size band. That sounds very uncomfortable!!

38JJ would be a sister size i.e. same volume cup on a bigger back

MountainDweller · 18/09/2020 23:56

I like Curvy Kate, Fantasie, Elomi - and Bestform for a comfortable wireless option. I order from Brastop. Order some sister sizes and see how you get on!

msbevvy · 19/09/2020 00:02

If you don't care what it looks like, the Triumph Doreen is the most comfortable one I've found.

Estrellente · 19/09/2020 00:03

Yeah the boob or bust doesn’t work well for me either. The band just cuts in and hurts! Take their band measurement, add an inch or two and come down a cup size accordingly; that gives me a better fit I find.

Tape measures don't stretch (or else they don't measure). Bra straps do stretch.

I'm a 44G, and have just discovered the Glamorise non wired bras. Amazing, really comfortable, more so than my trusty old Doreen bras!

TheMarzipanDildo · 20/09/2020 18:30

I think that it’s a good idea to go as close to the booborbust measurement as possible, but the closest sister size with a slightly bigger band works best for me.

clareken260 · 20/09/2020 18:32

Miss Mary of Sweden. I have two, both front fastening, so back rolls are held in a racer type back. No wires, and the fastenings are multiple hooks so you aren't falling out. Made a huge (no pun intended) difference to my silhouette and my back pain.

redlockscelt · 20/09/2020 18:36

@FreshfieldsGal

I love the Glamorise nonwired ones, buy a load of them every few months. Sometimes on offer on amazon for around £15.

I tried that Booborbust, I measured 38L but a 38 felt like it was crushing my ribs. Currently wearing a 44H which is very comfy.

I've tried those but all the ones I have had don't have shoulder straps you can adjust more than about 2-3cm so they don't give even vertical support.
redlockscelt · 20/09/2020 18:36

^ those = Glamorise. Not enough support.

blondiepigtails · 20/09/2020 18:58

Boob or Bust measurement site is very good. Takes a while to believe in the calculator. I went from 34DD to a 30G. Never looked better or more comfy. Back doesn’t ride up, no double boob, no falling out when ever I bend forward.

LoisLane66 · 20/09/2020 20:17

Ask your GP for a referral for a breast reduction.
You have to be no more than 70kg, and BMI of 25 or lower.
Each breast must weigh 500g or more to aid skin reconstruction.
Mine is in Oct and I'm a 36GG or a 38G depending on brand of bra.
I know what it's like to diet down to that weight so op can go ahead. I cut out sugar, cakes, puds, biscuits and bread.
I'm looking forward to smaller bras without 3 clip fastening and no shoulder pain.
I hated hot weather with sweat collecting under my ribcage and causing a rash.
Do ask. It can make a world of difference. A new you. Good luck. 🍀

LoisLane66 · 20/09/2020 20:24

Band size is around the ribs just under your bust.. level all the way around so look sideways in a mirror to get it straight.
Cup size is around the widest point of your breasts wearing a non-padded normal type bra.
Bravissimo assistants can usually tell your ect sir from looking at you fully dressed minus coat.
I found it amazing.

LoisLane66 · 20/09/2020 20:25

Sorry, should read 'exact size'.

AntiHop · 20/09/2020 20:30

If you can get to bravissimo branch, they do a non contact fitting.

LoisLane66 · 20/09/2020 20:33

Your whole breast needs to be in the cup, not disappearing under your arm. 'Lift and scoop' was what the advisor said. Lean forward to settle your boobs in the cup and make sure you can only fit two fingers under it (flat) no more. If you have narrow shoulders then look for bras which have straps placed closer together at the back.
There are some good YouTube videos on bra fitting which show how to measure, how to fit and what are best types for your figure.

Shhimtryingtosleep · 20/09/2020 21:01

I'm 34G and have changed to wire-free bras and I LOVE it

Goffsthelot · 20/09/2020 21:09

Great thread! Blatantly place-marking!

Ecci · 20/09/2020 21:10

Glamorise 1006 sports bra, totally comfortable and very supportive. I would never wear anything else.

LoisLane66 · 20/09/2020 22:04

I find sports bras, because of their very nature having to keep the jiggle under control, make me look bigger. They're padded and bigger all round.
Not a good look unless you're jogging or running. Thinner leisure bras of the one size fits either S M or L, are no help to bigger breasted women who have had several children and need some shape and structure.

Bl3ss3dm0m · 20/09/2020 22:34

I am rather large, and find Miss Sweden's non underwired bras very comfortable.
