Best bra for the fat woman with large breasts?

SuperEkstra · 16/09/2020 18:47

At this point I don't care if it's attractive. I can't deal with underwires digging into me any more, but I have large breasts and I am fat, with rolls on my back.

Has anyone got any tried and tested recommendations? The constant discomfort has started to get me down

Molke

dementedpixie · 17/09/2020 08:14

Have you measured to get an idea of size?

Look at Bravissimo and Figleaves but it sounds as if you are wearing the wrong size. If you phone Bravissimo they will advise you on how to measure yourself or you could go to one of their stores and be fitted. Department stores usually have a good Bra fitting service

QuestionMarkNow · 17/09/2020 08:24

@Lumene are the Molke bras really supportive?
I am a GG and it looks ‘light’ iyswim

SuperEkstra · 17/09/2020 09:15

So I've tried the measuring tool, and it says I'm a 36 K? I'm wearing a 40 DD - how would I get a 36 round my back?

The bigger cup gives you more room in the band, I came out as 34gg some brands are a little too tight and I am better at a 36g but on the whole the measurement will be right - the tighter band does the supporting instead of it all being on your straps - I used to always have a trapped nerve in my shoulder but with the new fit no problems

dementedpixie · 17/09/2020 09:39

Because your current cup size is far far too small it makes the bra feel tighter as the extra breast tissue is stealing fabric from the fabric that is meant for your back. You must measure 36 under your breasts to get a 36 back size so why wouldn't a 36 back size bra fit?

If you can get a 36 inch tape measure around you, you can get a 36 inch bra band around you. Your previous cups were WAY too small and so would have been pushing the band away from your body as it dealt with overspill. That means lots of discomfort and no support.

The bra band should fit snugly against your chest wall - that's where the support comes from and your boobs should sit fully and comfortably within each cup with no overspill.

Lyricallie · 17/09/2020 09:43

I'm a 36G and I love the panache ones from Figleaves (although I think Debenhams sells the brand too).

One like this:
www.figleaves.com/uk/panache-tango-balconette-bra/PA-3251.html?dwvar_PA-3251_color=45103&cgid=#q=panache&start=9

dementedpixie · 17/09/2020 09:44

Your 40DD is only the equivalent cup size of 36F (sister sizes are where the cup volume is the same on different back sizes e.g. 40DD = 38E = 36F = 34FF).

You are obviously bigger than an F cup so all those extra inches of breast tissue have nowhere to go and uses the band fabric and makes it feel tighter. Get the breast tissue into the proper cup size and the back size should fit.

newtb · 17/09/2020 09:45

Royce do non-wired bras, think there's 1 on bravissimo called Charlotte.

I always need to wear different sizes in different styles - generally speaking I'm a 36/88 J/JJ/K/KK

At a fitting a a couple of years ago now the very experience fitter explained (and I'm paraphrasing so might not be quite the right terminology) that breast tissue sits differently on different women so for some it's all at the front of the chest and some (like me) also have breast tissue actually continued further round my sides than I realised (like under my armpits) which is hard to measure because 2 women might be exactly the same size in term of measurements but the same bra size might be uncomfortable for one because of the stylee/placement of the underwire - especially if it is cutting into to your breast tissue under your arms which I worked out was actually my problem with underwire as its really important that the underwire goes around all your breast tissue not press up against it.

www.elomilingerie.com/uk/en/lingerie/bras/banded-bras/morgan-uw-bra/p/el4110tod/ My personal favorite at the moment is this one. (38/JJ)

Elomi also do a style called 'Cate' which gives me fantastic shape under clothes and I tend to wear if I go on a night out (36/KK)

The only want to know what works for you if to try different sizes and styles

Lumene · 17/09/2020 10:15

@QuestionMarkNow I find them good and I’m pretty ample - have been 34GG to HH in recent measures. They have a pretty good returns policy though if you try but don’t like.

veryveryquietly · 17/09/2020 10:19

Elomi is the absolute best and they last forever if you handwash them. Once you find the style and size that works for you, you can often find them megareduced on eBay.

BlackberryCitron · 17/09/2020 10:20

Oh sorry I read that as a sports bra request.

Elomi, Royce, or Molke are comfortable.

FreshfieldsGal · 17/09/2020 10:36

I love the Glamorise nonwired ones, buy a load of them every few months. Sometimes on offer on amazon for around £15.

I tried that Booborbust, I measured 38L but a 38 felt like it was crushing my ribs. Currently wearing a 44H which is very comfy.

SuperEkstra · 17/09/2020 10:52

@FreshfieldsGal yeah, that's what I'm worried about

OP posts:
BrandNewShinyThings · 17/09/2020 10:54

I did the boob or bust but I added 2 inches to the band as I can't cope with it too tight, and kept the cup size the same, it worked well for me.

KitKatastrophe · 17/09/2020 10:55

I love Molke. They are expensive but (surprisingly) sell really well secondhand. People will spend £30 on a second hand molke on some facebook selling sites.

MrsPnut · 17/09/2020 11:05

Try a sister size then to 36K - 38JJ would give you the same volume.

I always wear Panache Tango bras in 38JJ because I can't get a good fit with anything else. I've tried so many other styles and come back to the Tango every time.

I have a Molke bra but it gives a mono boob so it's mostly for those days when I am hanging around the house.

KatharinaRosalie · 17/09/2020 11:08

try your 40 bras on the other way, hooks under boobs. How far can you pull them from your body? it should be tight. If not, you can go down in band size.

snappycamper · 17/09/2020 13:50

I posted a similar thread last week for advice on big bras. Might be worth a look:

Tell me about your BIG underwired bras www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4016001-tell-me-about-your-big-underwired-bras

ChaChaCha2012 · 17/09/2020 13:59

Panache Tango here too. What hook are you wearing your current bra on? If you're on the tightest, then there's not going to be a vast difference between that and the 36K on the loosest. Also, if you're lacking in volume the cup size might be a bit big, so worth ordering a few sizes to get the best fit.
