Hi, can anyone recommend somewhere to get my colours done? I’m in north east Scotland. Thanks

John Lewis Personal Stylists will give you a basic idea if you book one of their in person sessions.

Try the Custom Edit or The Style Guide if going online. Look at the Concept Wardrobe online guides.

I wouldn’t recommend Styled by Susie; their service is only the four seasons. Most services offer 12 or more colour groups. There are threads on MN about SBS if you want to read more.

I found the John Lewis personal shopper to be pleasant but useless. Though it wasn’t the one in Aberdeen.

I did House of Colour and overall found it helpful. They have a consultant in Banchory I think but I don’t know anything about her.

Thanks both I looked at House of Colour but it’s really expensive I thought. I’m not sure if JL are doing the personal appointments at the moment? I found the concept wardrobe website quite confusing but was using my phone, so will have a go on a bigger screen

I follow some of the JL stylists on Insta and I think there is just one not doing personal sessions face to face. I’m not in Scotland though!

This stylist is £50 including a swatch book www.lifewithstyle.co.uk/your-true-colours/

This person is in Galashiels and charges £60

Depending on your location, you could try a JL stylist first then dig deeper with a face to face if you need more help?

@ @LoriesGar thanks I’ve emailed the first one to see if they are face to face or online.

House of Colour is brilliant and worth every penny imo .

Littleelffriend · 16/09/2020 19:58

@SpeckledyHen can you tell me what they do exactly?

I used House of Colour and found it fantastic.

The person had lots of different coloured scarves and first of all worked out what season I was i.e. spring/summer/autumn /winter.

They then went through every colour scarf within the season- holding a scarf beneath your face to see how your face looked with the colours. They also explained what they were looking for and I could absolutely see which ones looked better and which ones didn't. The colours were also rated as being the best colours for me or ones only to wear a bit of or avoid. Then finally I was given a booklet with colour samples to use when shopping and a booklet with more information.

I have found it very useful and it is one tool in working out whether something will look good. It makes shopping faster as well but I am not a slave to the colors.

I was fairly straightforward to categorise I think, however my husband wasn't straightforward at all (he saw it being done - laughed about it - then got interested and then wanted his colours 'done'). I think that it needed someone who knew what they were doing to work it out - he seems to sit between/across seasons. There were several of us there and we could see what the consultant meant when using the different colours.

I think that many people work out naturally themselves but for me it gave me confidence and an understanding of why something hadn't looked right in the past even though it was an autumn color. I am not sure how you get the full detail in an online consultation.

I had my colours done by House of Colour 17 years ago and I still stick by it. It's amazing, well worth every single penny and it means I can mix and match my wardrobe and know everything will work. I wear everything I have. I can go into a shop and instantly know whether they have anything for me.

And it stopped me wearing black every single day!

Looks like house of colour seem to get the most recommendations, thanks ladies! I’ve sent them a message.

I also recommend House of Colour, I had mine done 7 years ago and still use the advice and knowledge from them every day. It's worth every penny
