Deodorant that works?

Help! I think I'm turning into a smelly person!

For years I used the Mitchum roll on but it seems to have stopped working!

Can anyone recommend anything? I do a fair bit of exercise and don't want to smell at the end of the class!

I felt like I smelt today after it being warm out even though I've showered and have deodorant on.

Tia Thanks

I used to use Mitchum but switched to DKNY Cashmere Mist antiperspirant/deodorant stick. It's fab - pricey, but well worth it. It lasts ages, and being a stick rather than a roll on, you don't need to wait for it to dry before getting dressed 😊

Lollypop701 · 15/09/2020 18:54

Washing with bar soap REALLY helps

RunningFromInsanity · 15/09/2020 19:03

Im a fan of Sanex

Ginfordinner · 15/09/2020 19:11

Soap not shower gel
Sure maximum proection or Triple Dry anti perspirant

Coconut2010 · 15/09/2020 19:15

Sure maximum protection is by far the best I have tried. I apply it the night before before bed so don’t need to re apply next morning, and that way it doesn’t stain

JamieLeeCurtains · 15/09/2020 19:17

God yes what happened to Mitchum unscented?!! It's absolutely disgusting smelling all of a sudden.

Marmite133 · 15/09/2020 19:19

I find the Mitchum stick rather than roll on much better 👍

DameCelia · 15/09/2020 19:20

Shower gel leaves a film that stops deodorant and anti perspirant from working.
Deodorant stops smells but not sweat, anti perspirant stops both.
Both are supposed to be applied at night to give them time to act before you start smelling.

actiongirl1978 · 15/09/2020 19:23

Omg agreed re mitchum unscented totally rank now. I thought it was just me. The smell followed me around so I'd be in bed at night and could smell a horrible sweet smell.

I've had to find something new, gone for sure max protection - it is scented, but smells quite early 90s and the smell wears off but the protection doesn't.

Tried dove unscented but I found I was both smelly and damp so totally useless.

actiongirl1978 · 15/09/2020 19:24

For what it's worth I use bar soap have done for most adult life as I can't understand how to make shower gel stay on skin and not immediately slide onto the shower floor!

Spied · 15/09/2020 19:25

I find applying before bed rather than in the morning ( not both) works much better whatever the antiperspirant.
I also find the unscented ones more effective.
I like the Boots own brand unscented one.

Spam88 · 15/09/2020 19:27

I used Mitchum for years but have switched to Lidl's own brand one - I use the no marks one, used to have a black lid but seems to have come out of lockdown with a pink lid. Also use tea tree and mint shower gel.

In the depths of lockdown when there was panic buying hysteria, I couldn't get my usual stuff so had to resort to sanex and some random shower gel and I was definitely a bit whiffy.

Aurea · 15/09/2020 19:29

I use a natural deodorant called AKT. It doesn't stop you sweating but there is absolutely no smell of BO or sweat. I can just smell the essential oils in the deodorant. It works for at least 24 hours. I also wash with a bar of soap.

niceberg · 15/09/2020 19:41

Another vote for Triple Dry.

MsMiaWallace · 15/09/2020 19:43

Sanex roll on deodorant all the way!

Happyhusband · 15/09/2020 19:44

Pitrok. Lasts forever no perfume or rashes.

Eve · 15/09/2020 19:45

I started reacting to Mitchum and had to stop using it , also now react to sure - Sanex seems to be only thing I can use now.

wannabebump · 15/09/2020 19:46

Natural deodorant from Holland and Barrett is great, no scent and really effective. It's a wet spray though so does need to dry before getting dressed.

It's also worth using driclor - it's a roll on, use it at night and then deodrant as normal in the morning. It stings to start with (and especially if youve shaved your arm pits - id skip using it that night!) but it's a god send!

larrythelizard · 15/09/2020 19:54

Thank you all...really interesting reading...it was unscented mitchum I was using!

I've recently discovered an allergy to an ingredient in a lot of toiletries so have been using Body Shop shower gel which is much 'richer' (not sure of the correct word?!) and maybe that's what the problem is.

Will add some options to my grocery order for the week and see how I get on!

If you're not opposed to more a more 'medicated' option, I have used Driclor in the past. You put it on each night and after a week or so it stops you sweating completely (no idea how it actually works). Then you just reapply as you need it, once every few weeks usually. The only downside is it can be quite itchy when you first use it. It really does work though.

JamieLeeCurtains · 15/09/2020 21:02

I just don't know what Mitchum were thinking, destroying one of their main products for women like that.

Also they haven't changed the labelling, so it's misrepresentation really, regarding people who need an unscented product because they have eg contact dermatitis.

And it just stinks.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 16/09/2020 02:06

When it comes to pits & bits just shower gel on it's own doesn't cut the mustard. You need soap, any soap will do.
I tend to change anti perspiration/deo brands every 6 months currently using RightGuard unperfumed. But rotate with Sure & Dove.
However I do think today's anti-p/deo aren't a patch on the ones we used 15-20 years ago, as now days they are alcohol free compared to having alcohol in them back then.
The alcohol kills the bacteria that causes the sweat smell.
Sweat on its on is odourless but the bacteria that live on your skin break down the acids in the sweat & it's then the bacteria waste product that causes the smell.

autumnpie · 16/09/2020 17:51

I found that the Mitchum unscented hasn't been working for me like it used to for about 2 years. And I tried lots of other products and couldn't find a suitable alternative. Then I decided to try different natural deodrants in lockdown after reading threads here (when the fails didnt matter so much). I hadn't had much success with them before. After trying a few, i tried Earth Conscious - and even their low strength one is better than Mitchum for me. It's amazing. I can't bear the smell of most normal deodrants and so bought an unscented one and a Lemon and Rosemary one. The latter smells lovely and is a very subtle smell.

I switched to this and really liked it but the last 2 I bought just crumbled within a few weeks so complete waste of money. I suspect old stock but can’t be sure. I’ve gone over to a Clinique roll on which seems to work well and gets rave reviews.
