Any eyeliner tips?

I recently bought a pound land eyeliner to practice with. Then I bought a clinique one. But.... The clinique one looks awful. I realise this is because I can't do eyeliner properly but the pound land eyeliner is more forgiving (probably because it's less vibrant and not such a deep colour) so looks better.
Can anyone offer me tips? Or shall I stick to the cheap one

Once I've put eyeliner on I use a smudger, just go over it, it softens the line and makes it less harsh. But it is just down to practise.

If you’re thinking about a flick, keep the pencil straight across your eye. It’ll naturally make the shape.
Or come from underneath and flick up that way.
For a smudged effect, just colour along the lashes & try to go in your upper waterline too! :)

Thank you that's a good idea. The eyeliner has a sponge end that must be what it's for

(As with most eyeliners I've tried, you need a primer underneath to make it last. I like the urban decay one.)
