Help with Sezane sizing (pretty urgent)

Coconut2010 · 15/09/2020 09:08

I'm about to put through an order on the Sezane website (a couple of trousers and tops), and wondering what size to order.
I was going to order everything in 8 as I assumed they're not into vanity sizing, but then saw the disclaimer on their website to order the smallest size if between 2 sizes.
I am normally an 8 but in recent years I have been buying more and more clothes in size 6/34 European. I'd say I'm now a 6 in most high street brands except brands like Maje/Sandro.
If that helps I am quite tall at 5ft7 (which is also why I was more inclined to go for the 8)
Any help would be much appreciated (my basket - in 8- is ready!)
Thank you!

A Sezane 34 is larger than a Maje/Sandro 34. However, the models on Sezane are styled in a roomier fit so if you want that fit go up a size in most things (not the knitwear that stuff is massive). I'm a size 6UK/European 34 and moreoften than not take a 36 in Sezane just because I prefer how that looks as there's not always as much material in the clothes as you expect so the volume you see on screen in the clothes isn't there. But if you prefer a tidier fitted style then do the opposite.

Coconut2010 · 15/09/2020 09:21

@botemp Thank you so much this is super helpful. I noticed indeed that the clothes are quite lose on the models but that's actually the style I was interested in. I am going to order the trousers in size 8 but the tops in 6 (if you're telling me their 34 is larger than a Maje/Sandro I will definitely get lost in a size 8 top).
Order some trainers as well (inspired by another thread!)

My experience with Sezane is that the fit is quite relaxed.

Sasuma · 15/09/2020 10:16

Yes agree the fit is quite relaxed! The knitwear especially is quite oversized. The trousers I’ve had are more true to size. What are you ordering, I love Sezane! Haven’t ordered anything from their autumn range yet.

OhRosalind · 15/09/2020 10:30

I’ve tried quite a few items and the fit is generous but shoulders are quite narrow. I tend to order 36 if I want a relaxed fit and 34 if it’s something if prefer fitted. Their size advice is good, I wish they’d be more consistent though as I often buy second hand and it makes it more of a gamble!

Coconut2010 · 15/09/2020 10:54

Thanks all, I hope the blouse won't be too narrow at the shoulders as I ordered a size 34 Hmm
@Sasuma I ordered very classic pieces as this is my first time ordering from them! I bought their Gustave trousers (camel) and Clara trousers (black & white), a white blouse and the Jack Ecru trainers as suggested by a poster this morning on a different thread... As you can see I am quite impulsive when it comes to shopping Grin

There's fit guidance on each item, for some items it will advise sizing down if between two sizes, for others it will recommend going up.

IMO knitwear tends to run large, dresses are variable, trousers tend to run smaller or TTS.

Sasuma · 15/09/2020 11:45

@Coconut2010 ah nice - ] I have the black and white Clara trousers and wear them a lot for work, often get compliments! I also have the Gustave but in a previous colour way (checked). Hope you enjoy your new clothes Grin

Coconut2010 · 15/09/2020 11:57

@Sasuma haha if only I could go to work... Still wfh and the trousers won't be seen. I know it's a minor problem but I have so many nice clothes in my wardrobe I haven't been able to wear for the past 6 months Sad
Now I can't wait to receive my order! I'll definitely come and update you when I have tried everything Wink

OP posts:
Sasuma · 15/09/2020 12:22

@Coconut2010 yes same for me, still WFH! I had the Clara trousers last year and probably won’t be wearing them much at all this year - not expecting to go back to the office til March at the earliest! Hope all your clothes fit and let us know Smile

Ellapaella · 15/09/2020 12:46

I find Sezane sizing quite generous. I'm a 10-12 and wear 36 or a small

Ellapaella · 15/09/2020 12:48

I imagined a Sezane 10 would be much smaller than a UK 10 but it isn't, it's about the same, bordering on more generous.

Coconut2010 · 15/09/2020 14:02

@ Ellapaella If that's the case, I might have to return the trousers.
I'll keep you posted!

I found the Gustave trousers really generous, I needed to size down. Would be interested to hear how the Clara fits, it all seems quite erratic which is strange for a mostly online brand.

Coconut2010 · 18/09/2020 15:50

I received my order today - updating you as promised.
As expected, the Gustave trousers are really generous, not just on the legs but the waist as well so will probably return them and get a 6 instead.
Clara trousers in 8 are perfect - fairly tight (as they should be) but very comfortable and flattering for the legs.
I bought a shirt in size 6 - I worried it would be too narrow at the shoulders but it’s perfect.
Trainers are nice too - I’ve got to get used to them (I live in Stan Smith) but I’m pleased I bought them, they will give me a more sophisticated and polished look.

Glad you are pleased with your haul @Coconut2010 - I just love a Sezane parcel!

OhRosalind · 18/09/2020 16:45

Thanks for the update! Glad you are mostly happy with your order, I really want the Clara leopard trousers now!

SummaLuvin · 27/01/2021 10:11

Sorry, I know this is an older thread, but I am interested in the Clara trousers and was wondering about the fit. I am size 8, but with a proportionally small waist and wide hips, it's a nightmare to find bottoms that fit properly everywhere. Can anyone say if the trousers suit this sort of body?

OhRosalind · 27/01/2021 21:17

Have you tried any other styles from Sezane? I haven’t tried the Clara trousers but I have several pairs of their jeans and trousers and they are all pretty narrow hipped.

SummaLuvin · 28/01/2021 09:14

I haven't tried anything by Sezane at all! I did fear they would be narrow hipped. I don't know if I am best just ordering a couple of sizes and hoping one works out for me. I'm pretty tempted by the Artemis belt too...

PBJelly · 28/01/2021 10:52

@SummaLuvin I’ve got a similar shape to you with proportionally bigger hips to waist. I’ve got the Clara trousers and actually they’re fine - the material has a bit of stretch in it which helps. I also have the Austin trousers which are probably a better shape as they come in more at the waist/have a tie waist.

apairofblueeyes001 · 28/01/2021 11:13

I adore Sezane and placed a big order yesterday (pay day).

I do think it depends on your shape. I am slim but curvy (UK 10) with boobs/bum etc. I adore the Clara trousers but sized up so that the fit was looser and it was perfect (my husband loves them on me), but if, for instance, I had a more boyish figure sizing up would have been too big.

Get a couple of sizes with your order as returns are free.

SummaLuvin · 28/01/2021 12:59

Thank you everyone, this is really helpful. I think I will buy in 3 sizes to cover all bases.

Do they wash well?

Do you all ultimately think they are worth the money? I can afford them no problem, but £90 is more than I would usually spend on trousers. I am in the process of buying less, but higher quality when I do, so the higher prices are a little daunting when I usually spend £25 on trousers.

apairofblueeyes001 · 28/01/2021 14:07

Yes, they are excellent quality - I rarely buy from anywhere else now.

Like you, I buy less to afford better quality and all the pieces from Sezane are just beautiful.

Enjoy!
