Has anyone got one of these and can tell me what they are like?

We’ve moved away from shower gel and are all liking the bar soap (especially the Nesti Danti ones!) but struggling with a soap holder. I quite liked the magnetic ones but the disc that goes in the soap (and the top where it attaches to) has gone rusty which looks really rubbish.

We tried one that suctions on to the shower screen or tile, but fed up of waking at 3am to it clattering very noisily to the ground!

These look rather cool but I was wondering if there was anything bad about them?

Oh lord I haven’t seen one of those for years! Always in french hotels and loos - cracked, dried out soap that looked like willies (to my child mind).

That looks bizarre!! Dont think I'd want that on my wall! We have this one. It's been going for months with large, heavy bars of soap on and has not come off the wall once. The locking system seems really secure. Its rustproof too

I would just buy proper soap dishes and get a tradesman to put them up by drilling in to the tiles.

Oh they have one of these in a little local French cafe near here. I love it! I've planned to get one for our bathroom when we have it done out. So much neater and cleaner than conventional soap dishes.

We had that exact same one. It lasted really well for about 6 months then fell off and then repeatedly fell off every few days. Maybe we were unlucky!

I really like the look of these ones, though now have the imagine of dry cracked willies in my head. Thank you, @SerenityNowwwww Grin

Oh, I'd love this but you're tied to buying that soap. And lovely as it looks, it's not cheap.

No, they aren’t that cheapBlush. Reading the reviews, they do seem to last ages though which is a plus.

Yeah I see them in cafes still now and then.

There’s always something a bit, uh, weird about it, rubbing your hands up and down on the soap Grin. They do the job though.

Do you have kids who’ll drive you mad by constantly leaving it dirty?

LizzieMacQueen · 13/09/2020 20:17

How about you all have your own soap-on-a-rope. But then I suppose you need somewhere to hang them. If you're super competitive/eco then you could see who in your family is best at making them last.

StarlightLady · 13/09/2020 20:18

Ugh! I remember these in Parisian cafes when l was a teenager. The soap was always a frightening shade of brownie yellow with a hint of goodness knows what. Because of the angle of the soap, the dirt would adhere to it.

You rarely see them in France now (they went the same way as squatty loos) and there is good reason.

SerenityNowwwww · 13/09/2020 21:17

Squatty loos were the worst! Especially when you were a small child and god alone knows how anyone why wasn’t steady in their feet managed!
