Home hair dying help

My hair is very dark and at 53 now has to be dyed to keep it that way - I don't want to go for the grey look yet. But it grows really quickly and even after a week the roots and regrowth are really visible. I can't afford to get it professionally done weekly or fortnightly and so dye the roots etc at home. However, I am terrible at making a mess in the bathroom and on me!! Any tips so I can do this without dying everything in a 2 mile radius!!!

I put towels on the floor and wear my 'hair dye t-shirt' so it doesn't matter if dye drips on it. Baby wipes nearby for wiping dye off skin

Some ideas Smile

Get a proper mixing bowl, hair sanctioning clips and dye brush. You can also buy one of those hairdressing gowns for a few pounds - all from somewhere like Sally Beauty. I also usually wear a tatty teeshirt or something that I don't mind staining.
Make sure you put Vaseline around your hairline to prevent staining.
Have some disposable gloves and a shower cap to hand. That will keep the dye off your hands and you can put the shower cap on when you are waiting for the dye to process.
As soon as the dye is in your hair and the shower cap is on, do a quick clean up of the bathroom.
