Non weddingy wedding dresses

My best friend is getting married soon, having a v low key wedding (probably just them + witnesses).

She's looking for a non weddingy wedding dress. She's nearly 40, is not averse to cream but definitely will consider colours, dress must be knee length or full length. She's also quite partial to those nice 3/4 length brocade coats but this is not a deal breaker.

Regarding price they are paying for the wedding themselves and want to keep costs down so we'd be talking 'occasion dress' prices (couple of hundred at the absolute max) rather than wedding dress prices.

Any suggestions for dresses or good websites to look at would be appreciated!

Try ghost or Rixo for lovely dresses. Not cheap but gorgeous

CoffeeBeansGalore · 12/09/2020 14:21

What sort of style does she like? This is from sexyher.co.uk. £99.95. Can be made in any colour, but shown in blue & black

Have shown her dresses suggested and from links. Favourite so far is @JaneJeffer but she would prefer cream or light pink. But said she really likes it.

For something different, try terrymacey.com
Though might be a bit expensive.

The outnet is always worth a look www.theoutnet.com/en-gb/shop/clothing/dresses

Has anyone mentioned needle and thread? She may well like some of their stuff, it’s pricey but hopefully they have some bits in the sale.

Anthropology also worth a look

shop.mango.com/gb/women/dresses_c55363448 Mango - not a wedding dress but still maybe too weddingy. Open back mind.

shop.mango.com/gb/women/dresses-long/lace-back-dress_67037899.html now with actual link, I hope

Chi chi has lovely dresses. We had a low key wedding and I bought one there.

ApocalypseNowt · 12/09/2020 15:51

I showed her one from Needle and Thread before. It was this one. Really really liked it but would be pushing it on price (but still doable)

Reiss dress is nice but wrong length. Mid calf is a hard no due to calf issues Smile

I'm looking at Nancy mac for my wedding dress: www.nancymac.co.uk

gavisconismyfriend · 12/09/2020 16:29

@cheekaa totally agree! Love my Terry Mackey dress. Would have a wardrobe full and wear them every day if I could afford to!

Kote · 12/09/2020 16:35

I had the exact same type of wedding and the same trouble finding a dress! In the end I went for this one from Chi Chi (bought from ASOS). They have a good selection of not too weddingy dresses.

I love LOVE Needle and Thread but it is expensive. Have you looked at Frock and Frill? It’s much more affordable and they look like they have some dresses that may suit the occasion?

Dig For Victory (website and shop in Brighton).

I got my very weddingy wedding (but knee length) dress there - custom made to measure, £350.

Their off the peg stuff is brilliant too, and might be the kind of price your friend wants.

www.harrods.com/en-gb/shopping/melissa-odabash-cheryl-wrap-maxi-dress-15772573

And many other choices. Any other details your friend would like? Sleeves? Neckline? Colours?

TenhillPlace · 12/09/2020 19:23

And at the other end of the scale to Harrods...TKMaxx...they have a selection of different Needle and Thread Dresses all greatly reduced.

Like this

www.tkmaxx.com/uk/en/women/edits/occasionwear/occasion-dresses/muted-purple-sequin-maxi-dress/p/12133479

But others available.

ApocalypseNowt · 12/09/2020 20:03

Think we're narrowing it down to lighter colours but not white. Lace feels 'too weddingy. Neckline - most of the ones she's like have been v neck. Anything goes for sleeves. Less fussy designs in general preferred.

Thanks so much for all these suggestions. I'm not one for online shopping really so didn't have a clue where to start!
