Luxury beanie hat

A couple of years ago there was a cashmere beanie on Celtic & Co in a colour called demin which I loved, but I was skint, so didn't get it. I have a bit of spare cash but all the colours are now dark.

Can anyone point me to something similar? It's the colour that's most important to me a mid blue, maybe with a grey tinge. I'd like a luxury type knit, so cashmere or merino preferred but I'd consider others.

Johnstones of Elgin are good quality. They have other styles if you don't like this

Thanks. I looked at that one on my computer and it looked a bit green but looked again on my tablet and it looks much more blue! The downside of online shopping!

Navy is a bit dark. It's a shame because there's quite a few nice navy ones, but it is more of an ocean kind of blue I'm after.

John Lewis have a couple, own brand cashmere beanies and Brora ones, ranging from light blue through lapis to navy. I've got a few from having chemo last year, they are beautifully soft and comfortable to wear.

Thanks Jules. They have some nice colours and i really like the Brora ones. Good to know they are super soft and I hope that you are feeling better.

TKMaxx one is a tiny bit light but such a bargain! The amazon one is almost perfect colour thanks, also bargainous. I'm going to have to line up all the options and make a decision.

I'm putting nail polish on my toes and it is a similar blue, so obviously obsessed at the moment.

The warmest, lightest beanies I've found are made in NZ, from possum and merino. The possum is a pest, but has light hollow fibres and makes magical knitwear. Posh country clothing and shooting shops are your best source.

Xing - Possum! Who'd have thought! Can you buy balls of possum wool? We've got a couple of country stores near us but we aren't a posh part of the world! I haven't really been out shopping since the lockdown was lifted, should maybe have a visit.

@1000mangoesinabirthdaycake it’s not possum wool, it’s fur. The possums are killed and the fur used.

1000mangoesinabirthdaycake · 13/09/2020 18:51

I was imagining a sheared possum! Shows my stupidity!

Thanks Rococopops too for the link to the Brora one. The mist is nice and so was the plum you accidentally linked to too. After struggling to find any I now have loads to decide between. I might try and bite the bullet tonight otherwise I'll end up with my favourites selling out and then I'll REALLY kick myself!

Possums are only considered a pest in NZ. They are protected in Australia. And yes its fur not wool.
XingMing · 13/09/2020 20:09

Possums are vermin in NZ because they are predators on ground nesting birds, especially kiwis, and because there's nothing larger to control the population. But their fur is the ultimate in luxury fibre.
