What to do with hair?

I’m naturally auburn, but have coloured my hair so many different colours over the years. For the last year or so, I’ve been a mid - dark brown. When my roots come through they look quite light against the brown, there’s not many greys that I can see. But my roots are very very stillborn to colour, I can’t cover them with a semi.

I didn’t realise just how dark my hair was until I saw a recent photo. Most people say I suit darker hair. Anyway I did a vitamin c wash to lightening it up a bit and it’s a bit lighter, more warmer.

So I’ve my roots coming through now that look quite light, the darker part then the lengths which are a bit lighter. There’s quite a bit of warmth going through it all.

I don’t suit blonde hair, any shade of blonde. I’ve been a strawberry blonde and that doesn’t look good either. I’ve been a copper colour as well & it looks ok.

I don’t think I can be bothered to keep dying my roots every 4 weeks now and as I’m not getting any younger I think it’s ageing me. Do I just leave it & let my roots come through, let all colours grow out?

I could get auburn highlights through it to break it up but I’m afraid my hair won’t take it & my hair is already a mix of didn’t colours! It’s not in the best of condition, so any suggestions & I’m trying to grow it so I don’t want a pixie cut!!
