Waxing or shaving?

I'm possibly going to be having sex for the first time in a long time on Saturday and want to get rid of most of my public hair. I have no issues with public hair, I just prefer to get rid of some of it. I've only ever had a wax before and had a bad experience as when I booked it the woman didn't hang up the phone properly and I overheard her say 'great, another ugly vag for me today!' - I still went to the appointment but I should have cancelled and am now extremely paranoid of being judged by the beautician. I used to shave down there, but always ended up with ingrown hairs, even when I did everything properly. Exfoliated, trimmed, used a new good quality razor, shaved with direction of hair with shaving cream etc. So, should I overcome my fear of waxing and book? Or shall I shave? Can't believe how worried I am about this!

Go to a different beautician! I've had one who made me feel really uncomfortable when she kept commenting on the thickness of my hair (honestly, I swear I have hairier legs than DH), but I've been having my legs waxed for 15 years and that was just one woman. Most of them are lovely and put me at my ease. Just give yourself a day to make sure your skin has recovered before your date!

I would always go with waxing. You could have a basic bikini wax, just the sides removed at front and underneath. That doesn't take long and you could keep your knickers on. Give everything else a trim with scissors if you fancy. And have fun on Saturday!

And yes, definitely a different salon!

Oh I definitely won't be doing back to the same salon!

OK, I've booked in. Very nervous as I remember the pain being awful! Do I need to trim my hair before I go?

Yes always trim before a bikini wax. Don’t worry most beauticians are Way more professional ( I used to be one and would never have wanted to make a client feel uncomfortable It’s part of your job to put people at ease ) Good luck and enjoy your date!

OP, hope your date goes well. Only thing l would add to previous comments is allow one or maybe two days before being “done” and having sex.
