Best home dyes for grey roots?

Tried to cover up my grey roots with brown dye but they went orange! It's just the roots that are grey, the rest of my hair is brown.

Which are the best home dyes that cover grey?

I have tried a lot and think L’Oréal Preference is best .

I like the Clairol roots touch up one- you just put it on your grown out roots rather than all the way through your hair. It works really well, the only thing to bear in mind is that the colour seems comes out a little darker than anticipated, I usually go at least one shade lighter than my hair colour.
