What colour tights?

What colour tights, cardigan and boots would go well with a dark brown knee length dress? Also what colour tights, cardigan and boots would you match with a dark blue dress with burgundy spots? I know you can't wear brown with black, but can you wear navy with black? I realise I could probably Google this but I'd rather get the opinions of some real people. Tia x

I don't have a problem pairing brown with black, or navy with black. It depends on the individual pieces of course but I'd wear black tights with both from your description, especially if the navy dress has burgundy in it.

Black tights are fine for both.

Black or try mustard

Years ago I started a thread on Digital Spy asking if it was okay to wear some brown high heels I already owned with a black dress I'd bought for a wedding. From the reponses I got you'd think I'd committed a crime against fashion for even just thinking about it.

I would go mustard yellow, personally.

I like grey tights with navy or dark blue.

@LadyEv to be fair, I agree no brown shoes with black dress usually. There are some exceptions - and that would be down to like your accessories/coat etc

Without seeing them hard to say but probably black with the brown dress and possibly burgundy with the navy dress but it depends on the shade of the spots and if they might clash. I have tried both brown and navy tights and find they feel dowdy.

Tights for a brown dress is hard. Maybe nude shade.

For the red and blue dress I'd go with navy tights and red cardigan.

Can you wear black shoes / boots with a brown dress?

You can wear black or brown tights/shoes with a brown dress but it really depends on the shades and the look you are after. Do you have a picture?

These are the two brown dresses I'm talking about. Usually I wear dresses with tights and boots - either Doc Martens or black ankle boots. I tend to wear either a black cardigan or jacket with my dresses. But I don't think black will go very well with these two dresses. Brown isn't a colour I'm used to wearing so I'm a little unsure of what colours to match with it.

I am not sure now, I think they are summer dresses which I would wear with a bare leg and sandals or trainers. I am sure I had a green version of the spotty one and took it on holiday for years. I think with black cardigans to pull it together it might work but you will need to try it all on.
