What highlights do I need to ask for?

I want my hair to look like Gisele’s! Her stylist has said she just has normal foil highlights with 20 vol bleach. But I’m not sure what to ask my hairdresser for? It looks like she has horizontal foils across the top and down the sides, and some on the tips. The hair looks quite dark underneath. But if it’s just normal foils how does she not have straight lines when the roots grow out?

The finished hair looks quite light, but in the styled photo you can see the colour doesn’t go all the way to the roots and it’s not a straight line. How have they achieved that look with foils?

They are balayage highliggts and not every haidresser can do them well, so do your research.

A root smudge possibly?

The stylist said “highlights with 20 vol bleach and no base break”. She’s definitely got foils in her hair in the photos, it’s not being hand painted or balayaged. So I’m not quite sure how they’re achieving that look with foils?

They will foil a balayage to stop bleed.

What’s your hair colour?

You don’t need to explain the exact technique to a hair dresser, just show them the photos as they’re the experts

In my opinion they probably just used a toner to blend the highlights at her roots in with her natural colour (“bumping” the colour)

You can balayage with foils too, they paint the bleach on and place the foils over as usual for a higher lift
