Online shops seem to be awash with skinny and bootleg? Does it matter any more? I was going to go with straight as fed up with skinny ones as they're not so good for walking in the woods I find. Wanted some new jeans for work, am in my forties. What on earth should I be looking for or does it not matter now none of us are going out that much?

I was reading a thread last week about skinny jeans being out and bootlegs being the new shape, but I can’t bring myself to go for bootleg.
At 44 I think I would look like a faintly ridiculous try hard or at worst like I was just wearing my very old jeans from 15 years ago, on a soccer mum kind of way ☹️. So I bought skinnies (again). I do think straight would be a good compromise.

I loved bootcut. So practical!

I'm 45 and just can't bring myself to wear boot leg - I like straight leg or skinny!

M and S sienna straight are brilliant. I’ve got them in a couple of colours.

NoNewsisGood · 31/08/2020 19:33

Thanks, will look 'em up!

Was just going to say M&S Sienna, they're pretty flattering and true to size.

Butternutsqoosh · 31/08/2020 19:36

I've got some really nice straight ones from oasis, they've got 40% off today as well 👍🏻

I don't think I've seen bootcut jeans anywhere since 2005! Is it possible you're thinking of Mom jeans? They have a higher waist and (generally) a looser fit all round, but they're straight or tapered at the ankle (no flare!). The way to style them is to roll them up at ankle - they're not designed to come down over and cover a boot, the way bootcuts used to be, but to sit just on top of them, or an inch or so above.

What I wish more stores would do is a slim jeans - not cleaved to the leg skinny, but a bit more slender than the straight leg. There was a period 5-10 years ago when you could get them easily, but then skinny jeans began morphing into denim leggings, at which point it seems women had enough and the mom jean came roaring back into style.

I love a good mom jean, don't get me wrong, but it's hard to make them look polished.

NoNewsisGood · 01/09/2020 06:57

Er, no, all the online sites I've looked at clearly state 'bootcut'. I think maybe less flary than before, but it's what they are calling them at least.

I like boyfriend or girlfriend cuts, but wear them rolled up and not sure how this would translate into winter

Eek. I feel skinnies are so old hat now, but not sure what’s next

I have a friend who is 50 but is always on trend, will spy on her Grin

Hyperfish101 · 01/09/2020 07:27

Cropped or rolled up jeans look good with boots or trainers for winter

thedevilinablackdress · 01/09/2020 07:46

Whatever ones fit and make you smile.

Sooverthemill · 01/09/2020 09:55

Bootleg flare and wide leg are being pushed. Otherwise straight. The length seems to be going to full, length not cropped. I pretty much only wear jeans so take a ridiculously high interest in this crap. Skinnies are also around again for tucking into knee high boots. But please wear what you like

artisanparsnips · 01/09/2020 09:59

Have a look at Uniqlo; they have some great straight leg jeans which are my basics, and some more interesting wide leg ones too.

Liking80 · 01/09/2020 17:58

Gap have 40% off at the moment. I have just ordered a pair of straight leg.
