Waterproof trainers

Can anyone recommend any trainers that are somewhat waterproof? I need proper gym/walking trainers not converse style. They all seem to be made out of mesh these days. I have some leather New Balance which I love but they aren't really designed for the gym they’re too rigid. I’m sure trainers used to be more waterproof than they are these days, even if they weren’t real leather. With the mesh ones a walk on even slightly dewy grass ends up with wet socks. I usually like Nike, New Balance, Asics so if anyone has any recs from any of those I’d appreciate it! TIA

I have Salomon XA Pro 3D as walking shoes, they are gore-tex and properly waterproof (sold as trail running shoes), wouldn't be good in the gym though due to the sole design.

I've heard good things about allbirds mizzle collection which are designed to be waterproof

If you want properly waterproof then you either need ones for hiking/trail walking - something with goretex. Or you coul look for leather ones which will be shower proof - better than mesh anyway.

My feet got soaked in my Adidas trainers while I was away from home last week - in desperation ran into the nearby Primark ( only shop still open that evening) and grabbed a pair of plain white trainers that were £10. They are fab - I walked several kms in them the next day, they withstood driving rain and were surprisingly comfortable. I really wasn't expecting that, it was emergency measures, but I would really recommend them.

Thanks for the recommendations, I’ll look them up. I didn’t really want to go full on hiking/goretex, I have some but I’m sure normal Nike’s etc used to be more waterproof than they are now!

Do you have a Decathlon near you? Their own brand stuff is awesome and affordable and they do good waterproof walking shoes and boots. They also stock Merrill and Salomon too.

I got galoshes from amazon to put over my trainers. Probably not great for actual running, but for being outside and walking in the rain I love them. £8

I really want some Allbirds. Am saving up. Had some Geox ones last winter that were super waterproof. Sadly I left them under my desk at work before lockdown and it’s unlikely I’ll be reunited with them anytime soon.

Hi I have these Nike Pegasus gtx - they are very comfortable.

homemadecommunistrussia · 30/08/2020 22:19

My air force ones are fairly water resistant, no good for jumping in puddles, but not bad.

PrayingandHoping · 30/08/2020 22:22

Solomon gtx come in proper running shoes.

Used by cross country runners and the shoe chosen by a great number of dog agility handlers. They are lightweight, comfortable, supportive and my 2 year old pair still I'm good condition and waterproof

They come up a size small though!

Have you tried spraying your favourite trainers with waterproofing spray?
