Natural nails - clear polish recommendations

Hi, I'm trying to make more of an effort to look more put together! and would like pretty, natural looking nails. I've shaped them and sometimes buff them but don't want to thin them too much. I've tried cheap clear polishes but it chips quickly and dries my nails out. Can anybody who doesn't have gels etc. share their tips for pretty, natural polished looking nails! Thank you 😊

Hey there,
I know you said no gels but when I go to the salon I just ask them to use the base coat and the top coat without a colour.
It means I have nice clean, clear nails but the varnish keeps them strong and when it eventually chips it's not as noticeable as when you have a colour.

I use nothing. I stopped using Polish of all kinds several years ago and they have never been healthier. They don't flake, split or peel and im sure its because I'm not using acetone all the time to take off even the clearest of polishes. I shape with clippers and file to keep them neat but if you want natural look then keep them natural.

I've read good things about Dior nail glow. Not yet tried it but it's on my list to try.

I regularly use reckon 60 seconds in caramel cupcake, I think it’s called that anyway. It’s like a nude colour and really blends in. I also use acetone free nail polish remover.

I also have used in the past Sally Henson top coat, but it took an age to dry, hence now using the cheaper, quicker ones.

Revlon*

Carnate nail polish? It's a paste you dab on and then buff to shine.

SpeedofaSloth · 29/08/2020 19:35

Sally Hanson nail and cuticle oil used every night will make your nails look much better. When I remember to do it I don't need clear nail polish.

Nailtiques formula 3 is amazing, my nails just grow & grow when I wear it. Very moisturising & strengthening. Apply any colour you like over the top.

I use Dior Nail Glow and I love it. It is expensive but I have had my bottle for around two years and there's still around a third of a bottle left. It looks like 'your nails but better' - glossy and a sheer pink tint.

I think there are some cheaper dupes of it available too.

KedsAndTubeSocks · 29/08/2020 19:38

@Thedevilofsmallthings don't bother with Nail Glow. It lasts about 5 minutes. Waste of money. Sorry.

Thedevilofsmallthings · 29/08/2020 20:06

@KedsAndTubeSocks
That's a shame, it looks like just the think I'm after.

Thanks for your help everybody, a few things to try here 😊

Rimmel nail nurse is fab. I usually have to keep my nails sort for work and all the hand washing at work means my nails are weak but whilst on furlough they're quite long and Rimmel nail nurse has really strengthened and protected them.

linerforlife · 29/08/2020 21:36

The best clear gloss is Essie "gel" (it's not gel it's normal polish) in the white bottle. It's the topcoat and it's fab.

Pancakeorcrepe · 29/08/2020 21:45

Barry M Mani Mask
It’s like a varnish that camouflages, lightly colours and conditions. Available in three colours.

Instead of clear go for light pink/peach (like in french manicure), one coat is enough if you want more subtle.

GingerLemonTea · 30/08/2020 06:26

Dior Nail Glow is great

Girlintheframe · 30/08/2020 07:49

Dior nail glow is brilliant. Nails look healthy and cared for. I only like 1 coat as I find 2 make my nails too pink

Boireannachlaidir · 30/08/2020 07:59

Mavala clear polish

Notarealmum · 31/08/2020 04:52

Can anyone recommend a nude tinted nail polish that isn’t streaky? I just want to use one or two coats for a clear wash and am always wasting my money, even on good quality ones. (I’ve resorted to adding drops of colour to clear polish but would prefer a ready made one).

LunaNorth · 31/08/2020 05:05

Essie Ballet Slippers.

Summeriscancelled · 31/08/2020 05:19

Dior nail glow is my go to. A bit more expensive but worth it!
