Keeping your hair dry with no hood

I’ve bought a beautiful coat but it doesn’t have a good. How do people keep their hair dry if it’s windy and you can’t get an umbrella up? Is there a super duper umbrella that can withstand Yorkshire gales? Do I result in wearing a rain hood like my nan? Grin

Waterproof hat? I got a nice bucket style one from Masai

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 29/08/2020 21:08

you need the type of umbrella that the queen uses, one that covers your whole face and is transparent.

Nighttimefreedom · 29/08/2020 21:40

I find a wooly hat keeps the rain out and I tuck my hair into my coat which has a huge turned up furry collar, and I have also bought a good strong golf umbrella which I use unless its horrendous.

Rain hood, for sure. Exceptionally flattering and stylish. Come back after you've looked it up.

I have a Senz umbrella, it held up well in last week's gales. They are expensive, but I got mine in a sale

I have a chute/neck gaiter thing in my bag too and it keeps the drizzle off, but I am not very stylish 😏

A rain mate? Start a new trend for them 😂

Gingernaut · 30/08/2020 11:33

Stop buying coats with no hoods, no matter how beautiful they are.

thedevilinablackdress · 30/08/2020 11:40

I have a body warmer with a hood I sometimes wear under wool coats.
Also a strange garment - justa hood and shoulder which again goes under coat. Cos and Monki did them. Got on eBay.

Bioprepper · 31/08/2020 17:28

Thank you for the advice. I will look into the umbrellas as I look awful in hats and I need to look semi professional.

I wish it did have a hood, don’t think I’m ready for a rain mate just yet Grin

@TheSmallAssassin I looked at those umbrellas but even the cheapest at £60 is out of my budget. I mentioned the £185 one to DH and I thought I’d be able to get one on the life insurance because he nearly keeled over!

@Bioprepper I got a folding one in a sale on Umbrella World for £20 back in February, worth keeping an eye out?

I use a Gustbuster umbrella for dog walking, they are about £35 and are fab.

I've got one of those (red). It used to light up Smile
Xiaoxiong · 31/08/2020 20:09

I have a fedora. I worry I look a bit try-hard but it's fab and keeps the rain off my glasses too!

Rubytinsleslippers · 31/08/2020 20:12

I have the same hat as @thedevilinablackdress posted. Thought I looked chic. DH said I look like Vera....

SmileyClare · 31/08/2020 20:18

Wear a thin waterproof cagoule underneath and pull the hood out.

AdoptedBumpkin · 31/08/2020 20:25

Probably easier to wear a hooded garment underneath rather than faff with an umbrella (IMO).
