Eyeshadow makes me look “scary”

I experimented with makeup today and did something different “crease cut eyeshadow” which in summary the inner half of it you rub eyeshadow off and put concealer on over the half inner part. DH said I look really scary. I’m feeling very low now as I have very low self esteem. I just wanted to look nice! Can anyone explain how this style makes me look scar and how I can fix it?

Learning a new style takes time and lots of practice. It won’t look perfect straight away.

I bet you didnt really look scary! However, I can't pull of a lot of eyeshadow "looks" myself. If you look at most of the women used to advertise eyeshadows or demonstrate different styles they pretty much all have a lot of space on their eyelids AND very high eyebrows that give a much larger canvas. I like my eyes, but I have a much more average amount of eyelid showing so I cant pull of the very dramatic looks with a lot of colour going on. I also did a colour analysis and found I am "soft summer". As a result certain colours/colour contrasts just dont work so I had to experiment to find out what did.
But also I think its a bit unnecessary of yoiur husband to put it like that.

Change is scary, he'll cope. (Ask him if he wants to be the reason your confidence is low or someone you can rely on?) But as this is style and beauty I would love a picture of yours or of what you were going for?

I also wanted to add as well that cut-crease in general is quite a dramatic look and (in my experience) more appreciated by other women than it is men. Which is absolutely fine, I actually make very few makeup/clothing choices with men in mind. So if he does criticise it you could just point out its not actually FOR him (why do men always assume make up is?)

My understanding of cut crease is that you use a darker matte colour in the crease and a lighter colour (usually shimmery) on the lower lid. Personally I'm not a fan unless it's done quite subtly.

It takes a lot of practice to do it well so keep trying and watch a few different tutorials and you should be able to nail it.

But if you look at the amount of space between the crease and the eybrow that woman has theres loads. If I blended a similar amount of eyeshadow into/above the crease it would go up all the way to my brow bone and look much heavier. And I would say my eyes are fairly average (I dont have particularly low eyebrows for instance)

Essentially, he thinks you look better without it. That's a compliment. No need to let it make you feel low.

Thanks all. Sorry don’t want to put pic as I worry about being identifiable lol! His reason is that my eyelid was same colour as my face. The technique I used said to put concealer on it after wiping away the eyeshadow. I think you’re right it is very dramatic! Maybe I shouldn’t use that yet. Or maybe as the picture a PO posted shows a more simmering colour instead of concealer

He also said it makes it look like there’s “too much skin” on my eyelids. He NEVER has an opinion on anything so I’m very surprised he said all this, so very unlike him. I must have looked awful

I wonder if it is the concealer that is the problem. Perhaps use a subtle nude eyeshadow instead.

This is a bit more subtle (except the big false lashes ) and good to try for a beginner. Use a fine tipped eyeshadow brush with a matte brown on the crease and then a nude eyeshadow on the lower lid. Brush lightly and build up the colour.
