The great parka/winter coat challenge

Due to, er, never going anywhere anymore, I am trying to have a winter of not buying very much... BUT I have been putting a wee bit of money away every month for a new winter coat. I’d love a really gorgeous parka but don’t know where to find a really nice high end one (I’ve had various new look/uniqlo/topshop type ones before)

Is Parka London my best bet? Does anyone have one? Or push the boat out for a Troy (maybe a bit too preppy??)

I am either in a very rainy part of ireland or shlepping round the streets of London.

I have multiple ‘sensible’ functional coats - i really just want something a bit fashionable, a bit high quality, something to spank my clothes fund money on that I will really LOVE.

Give me your good parka recommendations!

I have a Parka London coat. It’s one with a removable bomber inside and a waterproof outer, you can wear both separately. It’s really warm and waterproof, I’ve worn it for trips to Scandinavia in winter and the Baltics. I like that you can change the faux fur trim so I’ve got a couple.

I’ve had it for three years and it looks good as new, seems really tough material.

Ooh that sounds really good!

Yes I’m really happy with mine! I actually got it in the sale on ASOS so might be worth having a look around.

Can highly recommend some of the suggestions here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4008644-aibu-to-splash-out-on-a-decent-coat-for-myself-for-once-help-choosing-please

And, as you will see from my posts on the thread, I can highly recommend my Didriksons Grin

I'm after a parka myself and was just about to start a thread on it because, to add to the challenge, I'm petite.

I've just looked at Parka London but the ones they have in at the moment don't look very warm and I'm after a very warm one. The one I'm looking at is the Drift. It looks and reads like a transitional season one, rather than a winter one.

Is yours thicker than the Drift Sasuma?

Sasuma · 03/09/2020 19:14

@SlipsAndLols I’ve just looked at their website and yeah agree it looks like they’ve just got jackets in! I imagine they will have more in a few weeks.

The one I’ve got has a padded inner which is removable and can be worn as a jacket alone - it’s a bit like a bomber jacket. It has a waterproof outer which can also be worn separately and it has a faux fur trim. I wore it in Tallinn and Helsinki in February in the snow and it was warm enough for me!

I think it’s this one or if not a similar style from another year www.asos.com/au/parka-london/parka-london-kay-parka-with-inner-detachable-bomber-jacket-and-faux-fur-trim/prd/7099308

Thanks Sasuma that's just the kind of thing I'm after. I wonder whether they will stock them on Asos again this year.

I'm glad that you looked at the ones they do and agree that they don't look very warm! I thought it was just me. That or that you are proper 'ard when it comes to the cold Grin

Still a nice jacket though and reasonably priced for the quality I could have one for transitional weather and one for winter, couldn't I? Wink

Sasuma · 03/09/2020 20:25

@SlipsAndLols no they’re definitely not the warmest ones they have! If you are looking, they sell them on ASOS and John Lewis usually - I actually picked mine up for about 50% off in an ASOS sale Grin Which might help if you want more than one Wink

SlipsAndLols · 03/09/2020 22:16

Thanks Sasuma I'm off for a look now.....

Paddingtonthebear · 03/09/2020 22:24

I was just looking for a winter Parka London but can’t find anything.

Anyone know anything about Troy?

Paddingtonthebear · 03/09/2020 22:25

Ok scrap Troy just seen how expensive they are Grin
